Guilford Woolen Mill Finishing Room Crew, ca. 1890
This week, teams from three communities--Surry, Strong, and Swan's Island--will come to MHS for orientation and training to prepare them to spend the coming year researching their town history, developing their capacity to collaborate and share resources, and to create new websites on Maine Memory Network. This exhibit, created by Guilford's town manager as part of last year's MCHP cohort, explores Guilford's proud manufacturing history. Visit the exhibit.
Speaker: William D. Barry, historian, and MHS reference librarian
Join us to celebrate the recent publication of this much-anticipated new book about off-peninsula Portland from the 17th through mid-20th centuries. MHS's own Bill Barry and co-author Patricia McGraw Anderson conducted extensive original research on Deering, Stroudwater, and other neighborhoods, and have created a rich compendium that includes new information, stories, and photographs, many accessible for the first time here.
Books available for purchase at the MHS Store in Portland, and online.
