Islesboro: Water Transportation 

 

This exhibit, created by a community team from Islesboro, explores how residents, workers, and visitors have traveled between the island and mainland since the 18th century. Islanders have depended on privately and publicly owned boats of all sizes and types, ranging from rowboats and small sailboats, to fishing boats and large ferries. Note: The images in this exhibit were scanned by students at Islesboro Central School. View the exhibit.

The Longfellow Gardens: The Evolution of Two Landmarks

Join us to celebrate Spring! Learn about the rich history and recent rehabilitation of the Longfellow Garden at MHS and the garden at the Longfellow National Historic Site in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Meier, a landscape architect with a specialty in historic preservation, contributed to the rehabilitation of both gardens.  Details.

 

This event is held in partnership with the Longfellow Garden Club.

The annual meeting includes awards, the welcoming of new Trustees, and a talk by Fred Thompson, former head of the Maine Broadcasting System (1983-98), on the early days of television in Maine.
