The ice storm of January 28, 1886, wreaked havoc in Portland and other Maine cities and towns. It damaged electric lines and street railroads, slowed pedestrians, and hampered communications. These images, captured by the Portland-based photography firm Heath & Smith, record both the storm's damage and the beauty it created. Visit the exhibit.
