Online Exhibit: The Arrival of WinterSnow has always been both a pleasure and nuisance to Mainers. On one hand, we get skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and incredible beauty. On the other, we spend a huge amount of time shoveling, plowing, slipping, sliding, and otherwise coping. Both the chore and the cheer are covered in this exhibit which includes material from more than ten Maine Memory contributors, and features images of Caribou, Lovell, Lewiston and many communities in between. Saturday, January 1, 10:30am and 3:30pm
The Killing of Crazy Horse by Thomas Powers
Filmed at Maine Historical in November, Thomas Powers's book talk will air on C-SPAN 2's Book-TV this weekend.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Thomas Powers recounts the death of Native American leader, Crazy Horse, who died under federal custody in 1877. Crazy Horse's victory over General Custer at the battle of Little Bighorn in 1876 shocked and unnerved the country. The details surrounding Crazy Horse's death the next year were the subject of great dispute and have remained controversial for more than a century. With the Great Sioux War as background, Powers recounts the final months and days of Crazy Horse's life.
Thomas Powers is the author of numerous books, including The Man Who Kept Secrets and Intelligence Wars: American Secret History from Hitler to al-Qaeda.
