CELEBRATE SUPER 8! Count Down to SUPER 8 (the movie)
The excitement and anticipation surrounding the release
of a summer blockbuster film written and directed by J.J. Abrams, produced by Steven Spielberg, Super 8, scheduled to premier on June 10th is MOUNTING! (just read the TWITTER PAGE)!
In celebration of the movie, we thought that this is the perfect time to do some cool, fun, promotional awareness of the Super 8 format.
We have had many people ask us if there is actual super 8 footage in the film. The answer to that is - we can't tell you. It remains a mystery just like the film itself! What we can tell you is that several Pro814 cameras were purchased at the start of shooting. We will just have to wait and see.

HOW TO ENTER: 1. Take your photo in front of a Super 8 (the movie) billboard 2. Email the photo to Jaclyn, jaclyn@pro8mm.com and include the following information: 3. Include your name, email address, and a release statement from the photographer and the subject (if there is one) granting permission for Pro8mm to post the photo 4. Include where the photo was taken (city, state, location, etc.) 5. Include any caption that you think might apply to the photo

Do A Shot With Pro8mm

The Shots are on Pro8mm again at Cinegear Expo for the first 75 filmmakers who sign up on site for "Do A Shot with Pro8mm!" "Do A Shot" is a hands on shooting experience at Cinegear, where each participant will have 45 minutes to borrow a Super 8 camera from us and shoot a roll of super 8 film on their own around the expo, for free!! Pro8mm will process the film the following week, and scan the footage to native 1080 HD on the Millennium 2 scanner. Select footage will be edited and will appear as a demo on the Pro8mm website, YouTube, and be given to Cinegear Expo. There is also an option for shooters to purchase their individual reel.
The one hour time slots begin at 4:15pm on Friday and 10:15am on Saturday. Included is some basic hands on training, one roll of Super 8 film to shoot and a "Do A Shot" t-shirt. All participants must have a valid ID and a credit card for a damage deposit to check out a camera. Participants will be required to sign a release allowing Pro8mm to use the footage.
 Following the expo, Pro8mm will be hosting a BBQ at the Pro8mm office for all Do A Shot participants or anyone who attended Cinegear Expo. We will be cookin' up some food and give you a chance to relax and hang out after the expo. We will also give you a chance to tour the Pro8mm facility. You must have your badge to attend the BBQ.

It was March Madness at Pro8mm for events - hosting both the semi-annual "The Power of Super 8 Film Boot Camp" March 25, 26, & 27, and "Do A Shot with Pro8mm & Kodak" at SXSW in Austin, TX March 14, 15, 16 & 17.
Once again the boot camp was a blast and a huge success, with fantastic presentations from our expert Super 8 filmmakers, technical sessions presented by Pro8mm, a BBQ, a cocktail party, film screening and much more. Despite the cold weather we had that weekend, participants braved it for some hands-on shooting as well. Thank you to everyone who participated in the boot camp! Check out the photos! It was hard to miss Pro8mm & Kodak at SXSW, with over 80 participants running around the streets of Austin in bright yellow t-shirts and carrying Super 8 cameras. This was our first "Do A Shot" at SXSW with Kodak, and it was nothing short of a big hit. With an article written in Techland times, a photo in NY Times Magazine, and a ton of articles written about the Super 8 feature documentary screening, "It's About You," Super 8 surely made its mark on this years trade show. Impressive given the amount of new technology that exists at this film, music and interative event.

SXSW 2011 Photos
Pro8mm also hosted a few private workshops in March, one at the University of the Redlands, where Pro8mm went to campus for a "Power Presentation" and shooting experience with the film students. We also had students from Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara Campus, School of Communications in Mexico visit Pro8mm for a similar style workshop.
Check out the video clips from SXSW, and our 2 private workshops. In all three of these experiences, the majority of the shooters had never shot Super 8 before.

New Teleseminar Series Announced!
Pro8mm is thrilled to announce our next teleseminar series: Applications for Super 8 Lifestyle Filmmaking!
Our first teleseminar in this series, which will take place Wednesday, May 11 at 4:30pm  (Pacific Time) will feature Phil Vigeant, Super 8 expert and author of "The Power of Super 8 Film, Insider Secrets Every Filmmaker Should Know," who will talk at length about the best applications for Super 8, and how you can take advantage of your skill and love of filmmaking to capture Super 8 lifestyle images. This teleseminar will also focus on a concept called "Do A Shot with Pro8mm," an application Pro8mm came up with last year to expose new fillmmakers to real film. We will discuss why this concept of "Do A Shot" works so well, and teach you how you might incorporate you own "Do A Shot" to expose national brands to your Super 8 filmmaking.
We plan on having a number of guest speakers throughout this series who are practicing these applications every day and have become experts in their particular field. Our second teleseminar will be on Wednesday, June 8 at 4:30pm (Pacific Time) on the boom in Super 8 Weddings and the many creative applications er are seeing. Guest speakers to be announced soon!
