  • Super 8 Format Thrives at Cine Gear Expo

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us at Cine Gear Expo at the Wadsworth Theatre and Fairgrounds. For the 3rd year in a row, Pro8mm was recognized for its contributions to the industry in various ways at the expo. Cine Gear News, the official magazine of the expo featured an article titled SUPER 8 FILM FORMAT GAINS TRACTION. Referenced in the article was our work in George Hinkenlooper's feature film FACTORY GIRL, which shot a variety of our stocks on a MAX 8 Camera to depict the world of Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick. Also noted was how the company is encouraging film schools to teach classes on super 8 using the Pro8mm basic principals of shooting on negative film with a MAX 8 camera, scanning on the Y front and editing in computer. A press release about our new products and services including scans directly to hard drive also was featured.

New Crystal Sync Modification to our Max 16 Camera

Classic MAX 16 Camera Upgraded For Crystal Sync "The Affordable Widescreen 16mm Camera"

Introduced at Cine Gear Expo just one year ago, the Classic Max 16 has become a popular, affordable choice.

We have just released Pro8/43, a 160 ASA Tungsten Negative cut from the new 35mm Fuji ETERNA VIVID 160. The stock was introduced by Fuji this spring and is loaded by Pro8mm into the familiar 50 foot Super 8 cartridges at our Burbank, California facility. VIVID is an evolved version of ETERNA with even higher color saturation.

    12 year old Kelsey Gough

12 year old Kelsey Gough of Maine came in 4th place in the Alpine Slalom and 5th place overall for her division at the USASA National Snowboard Competition in Lake Tahoe this April We were thrilled to help sponsor this promising young athlete and Girls Olympic Team hopeful (our logo matches your yellow board nicely Kelsey!) We hope that we can assist her in obtaining a national sponsor, as we have a long history of working with filmmakers who shoot snowboarders for national vendors. Anyone interested, give us a shout!

    We Love this Stuff:

In a recent e-mail, we got this from a very happy client ... "Hello - I just wanted to let you guys know that I just got back a couple of reels of film from you of a wedding I shot recently and the film came out gorgeous. It was B&W reversal and 64T color. I was worried about the 64T, because supposedly my camera's ASA is not set right to film this stock. For whatever reason it worked. I have yet to be disappointed in your film stock and processing and just wanted to let you know that I will never buy super8 film from anyone else. Thanks again and keep up the great work." - Joe H., Vancouver, Washington

    The Fred Jimenez Band

The popular French rock group, the Fred Jimenez Band, whose style is reminiscent of The British Invasion of the 60's did an awesome 16mm music video with us using just a 12 roll movie package, shooting a combination of Pro16/63, 250D and Pro16/53 250T. We transferred the processed film to PAL, the European standard, but you can watch the video called C'est Le Printemps here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mTLr4lMbPs

    Try The Y

$88.88 for one roll of Pro8mm film, processing, prep and clean and scanning on the Y Front . Go to www.pro8mm.com for detailed press release.

    On The Lot

Fox's new reality competition series ON THE LOT premiered on May 22nd. The show gives aspiring filmmakers the opportunity of a lifetime: a $1-million Dream Works development deal. 12,000 people submitted their films for consideration.

    The White Stripes

In a new black and white music video for THE WHITE STRIPES, both Super 8 and 16mm film was processed in our lab. Will put up the link when the video is complete!

Pro8mm Now Offers Direct to File Digitization and Scanning

Pro8mm has recently added a hardware based SDI encoder for direct digitizing of film scanning to file formats. Film can be transferred directly from our Y-Front Ursa Diamond Scanner to Quick Time files. We can use different Codec's for encoding, ranging from completely uncompressed 10 Bit for high end work to highly compressed files such as Mpeg4 for output to I-Pods or You Tube. For example, a typical transfer that went to Mini-Dv would be encoded with the Dv Codec. Materials can be delivered to the customer on DVD-R for small files (Under 4.7 Gig) or Portable Hard drive for larger files.

    Pro8mm Expands Camera Repair Department

Pro8mm announces the expansion of their camera repair facility. We now have the capacity to repair and service a variety of Super 8 and 16mm cameras, with our main focus on Canon Super 8 cameras and Bolex 16mm cameras Additionally, this fall, we will be introducing the first of our new rebuilt, recalibrated cameras, modified to optimize the results of modern film stocks. Watch for the introduction of the Pro814Camera.

Think Big, Shoot Small ... HUGE Success!

Excerpt from Article: Nearly 100 people gathered on Sunday, June 24th at the Gordon Biersch Brewery in Burbank, California to screen 30 individual super 8 reels for Pro8mm's first film Festival, THINK BIG, SHOOT SMALL.
