Hope For the Children of Haiti

HFC Update

October 8, 2012

If you can walk, you can HELP!

It doesn't matter where you are, grab a couple of friends, co-workers, family members during the week of Oct 20-27th and WALK to raise money for HFC. Use this opportunity to walk with others who haven't heard about HFC and tell them why you support this ministry. (for more info, visit www.walk4hfc.wordpress.com

I, personally, will be walking with my children, Jazmyn (7) and Justin (5). My involvement with Hope for the Children of Haiti has been and continues to be a valuable way of teaching them about life in other cultures and most importantly about gratitude. I realized soon enough as a young mom that gratitude is not something that is easily learned by simply teaching our "Please" and "Thank Yous". HFC's theme for this year is one of Legacy and I want to make sure that I am passing down more than a list of "shoulds" and "should nots".

walk 2012The joy comes when it starts sinking in. Now my daughter is looking for ways to give her well-earned pennies. If you have children at home, consider walking as a family. After the walk, we are asking walkers to send in a picture of themselves with a message for the children in Haiti so they can see the people who care enough about them to make a difference.

Thank you for your support!

Back to School
School is back in session, the walls echo with the laughter of children, and teachers are getting back into the swing of grading papers and preparing assignments.

In some ways it sounds like my experience in getting my children ready to start the school year. Yet in Haiti, it looks quite different. There are no trips to Walmart for $.99 deals, no shopping carts full of clothing that will fit after the summer growth spurt. In fact for many of the children in Haiti, going to school is a privilege that others in their family or community may not have. That is why we make a serious effort at the Marion Austin Christian School to not just teach but to invest in these children's lives. They may be the one who is able to get a job and take care of the rest of their family or they may be the one to advocate for those less fortunate.

By not only departing knowledge but also instilling Christian values, we are following Jesus' example when he proclaimed that he was sent
"to proclaim good news to the poor...to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18

Thank you for taking part in making a difference in the 450+ children who attend our school!

Current Needs

We are still collecting laptops for the computer classes in the Marion Austin School. With the heavy use and difficult environment in Haiti (dust, electrical currents) we try to do our best to make them last as long as possible but we are always collecting more to replace damaged laptops. Please contact Tara Kasey with potential donations.

You can help us reduce our costs by updating your contact information and selecting electronic delivery for HFC mailings and receipts. Go to www.hfchaiti.org/emailme to fill out our online form.

Prayer Requests

Praise be to God for the love and commitment that He has raised up in so many who have supported HFC!

Thanks for the evidence of Christ in the lives of the HFC children and adults.

That God will provide for the ministry's need for more physical space in Haiti to support our ministry growth.

For wisdom in moving forward with sustainable programs that will not only provide for a need but also provide for Haiti's future.

To allow our ministry to strengthen families in Haiti and to become family to those who have no family.

That the love of Christ would be evident to the students of the Marion Austin Christian School.

Prayer for the current leadership in Haiti.

That God would renew His call on each of us and strengthen us to do His work, wherever He calls.

For all who continue to serve faithfully in Haiti.

That God would protect and strengthen Dr. Bernard and Claudette, and intern Angie Craig.
