Hope For the Children of Haiti

HFC Update

November 8, 2011

"Life in this wealthy country of ours is accepted as matter-of-fact. We accept one blessing after another and sometimes we even complain without realizing it. It becomes so commonplace. In Haiti the love of God continues to shine through as the people look forward to the day when "God will divide the waters of the sea...and they will walk across on dry ground." Such faith and spiritual wealth coming from those who merely exist..." - HFC Founder Marion Austin

I recently received a letter from a donor who explained that her financial situation had changed. This type of correspondence is familiar to me as I have served for several years at different non-profit organizations. However, this letter was different. Instead of a reason why she was discontinuing giving, there was a check attached as the donor explained that she was giving "in faith".

This caused me to stop and reflect. As I have flipped through holiday editions of magazines, I have seen several articles on how to not overspend yourselves during the holiday season or how to pay down your bills in the new year. It made me question how much we buy during the holidays with our faith in a job, a tax return, or the support of our family. How different would it be if the holidays were more about a time of giving in faith, a faith not in things that can change but a faith in an unchangeable God? My prayer for my family and for yours - May God give us the wisdom and guidance this holiday season to recognize the blessings He has given and to grow our faith in Him. Amen.

For a spiritual awakening in Haiti and that God would call and empower Haitians to serve other Haitians.
