Hope For the Children of Haiti

HFC Update

January 12, 2011

As I write out the date today - a date that seems so familiar, memories of the events and the feelings of one year ago flood my memory. I remember waiting for news about the people who I love dearly, praying they are ok. I can trace a timeline of feelings and emotions from that point - sadness at the devastation, amazement at the resounding faith of those who survived, frustration as rebuilding was slow, happiness as I got to hug my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ while in Haiti, discouragement as cholera broke out and began to take thousands of lives and the elections were such a mess, and finally hope as I see the faith of those in Haiti remaining strong and steadfast.

God uses challenges in our lives as we see in Romans 5:1-5 "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." I have seen the result of this passage in the testimonies of the HFC children. They have found hope in their suffering through Jesus Christ. Below are two of their remembrances. Please continue to pray for the country of Haiti with us.
Remembering January 12th

Emmanuel shares, "So today is a special day for us - when God saved us out of the danger. If each child could tell what has happened, there is not just not enough time. One thing is for sure is that God blessed us and He protected us. We want to pray, 'May God let our dreams come true. This year we don't want a lot of things to change. We would just like to tell you day by day that things may get bad but don't get discouraged. The work is for the Lord. We love you and know you love us. So we pray that God will protect the orphanage.'"

Alexandra shares, "For us, the girls, today is a consecrated day, a day of grace because we were not victims in this day last year. It is not better, but we are better than those who were victims. But it is grace that God made us. Today is a day for us to give God the glory and for us to thank Him."

·  That God would provide new opportunities to rebuild Haiti for His glory.

·  That Haitians would unite in peace and solidarity of purpose to rebuild Haiti.

·  That gangs would lay down their arms for tools to join the rebuilding.

·   There would be a spiritual awakening in Haiti and among those who are moved to help.

·   That God would protect and strengthen our missionaries and interns on the ground, Mark and Marsha Romens, Jamie Birney, and Cecelia Osowski.
