  • Missionaries: Mark and Marsha Romens
  • Director Dr. Bernard and his wife Claudette (Dr. Bernard has been experiencing a lot of back pain)
  • And the staff at HFC, the Marion Austin school, and the Bethel House

Here are some exciting reports from the field:
  • The New Jerusalem and Grace Chapel teams stayed very busy with their grief counseling and medical team services (3 doctors and two nurses). We had about 65 parents for our school's grief session and about 20 of our teachers the following afternoon. Parents from our school, Maranatha, and a local public school were invited to a session at Marantha School's chapel, and over 300 parents were in attendance. The doctors saw over 100 people from tent city and were very busy in their work at Clinique Bethanie.
  • Grace Chapel was able to lead some interest sessions (arts and crafts, Bible study, carpentry, computer skills, acting, exercise, games, and soccer) that was well received by the kids.
  • In terms of the physical plant, progress is being made each week. Grace Chapel was able to do a lot of painting at the orphanage as well as fix some damage that was caused by the earthquake.
  • A donated, state-of-the-art water filter system and a refrigerator have been installed, allowing for more sanitary food conditions as well as reducing costs and waste.
  • Grace Chapel team brought in eleven ceiling fans, eight of which they also installed.

You can help us reduce our costs by updating your contact information and selecting electronic delivery for HFC mailings and receipts. Go to www.hfchaiti.org/emailme to fill out our online form.

Update 8/2/2010
Several of the children have written their thoughts following the earthquake, we will be sharing them with you periodically through our email updates.

Carmelle JeudyI was on the roof of the house playing with the other kids. I felt a breeze pass on my skin. While was enjoying that, the earth started shaking me. I was so afraid. I could not move myself. Another kid came to take me by the hand to get me downstairs where the other kids were. The earth shook again for the second time. We cried. We saw the ground crack. I thought it would open and kill us. We were so afraid. While we were crying, the voice of a man from the street said, "Everybody, do not stay in your house! Get out!" The leader of the pension took us and led us to the campus of the UEBH. I saw at the campus so many people trying to save some workers who were under the mission building that collapsed. I saw dead bodies and wounded people. At this time I realized that we are nothing, just a breath. We slept at the campus, but me, I can't sleep all night.

Prayer Requests

·  Praise the Lord for being our Fortress, Stronghold and Deliverer and for His protection of all our children.

·  That from this tragedy God would provide new opportunities to rebuild Haiti for His glory.

·  That Haitians would unite in peace and solidarity of purpose to rebuild Haiti.

·  That gangs would lay down their arms for tools to join the rebuilding.

·   There would be a spiritual awakening in Haiti and among those who are moved to help.

·   That God would protect and strengthen all the aid workers faced with so much tragedy (specifically Keziah Furth, a former HFC Intern and nurse).

·   That God would quickly unite the adoptive children of HFC and New Life Link (NLL) with their waiting families.

·   That the leadership of HFC would be united as they undergo a discernment process regarding our role in rebuilding Haiti and the future of our non-adoptive children.

·   That the Lord would continue to protect our children and secure the buildings from further damage.

·   That Dr. Bernard and Claudette would be strengthened and renewed that they would not grow weary as they deal with this tragedy on the ground.

·   That God would renew His call on each of us and strengthen us to do His work, wherever He calls.
