  • School Read-a-thons
  • Bead-Making
  • Bingo Nights
  • Letters to Friends and Family
  • Clothing Drives
  • Employer Matching Gifts
  • 29-Hour Fast

And the fundraising has been happening through:

The list goes on and on... It is amazing to see all the creativity and effort put in to supporting the people in Haiti. And now as missions teams are going to Haiti, we will be working alongside the Haitian people to help rebuild Haiti, starting with our own community in Bolosse.

Current efforts include the Bidding for Good Auction that will be running until April 30th. Also those who wish to donate to or shop at the Acton Family Network Tag Sale coming up on May 15th will also be supporting HFC.
Update 4/21/2010
On April 5th the school reopened. The repairs to the main building have been completed! The reopening got off to a slow start as many children went to the country to live with relatives post-earthquake and many of the teachers still have basic living concerns such as housing and food. We are very grateful that our buildings needed only repair, not reconstruction. There are many schools in the area that did not fare as well and we would like to be able to accommodate those children as things begin to stabilize. Through opening the school, we can offer some return to a normal routine amidst the chaos left after the earthquake.

The first day of school was spent talking to each other about the earthquake. Many of the HFC kids said that while they are prepared and not as scared about the earthquake, many of the other kids are not as well prepared or ready for school as they are.

Several of the children have written their thoughts following the earthquake, we will be sharing them with you periodically through our email updates.

Nelcia Closeup"On January 12th I was in my bedroom laying on my bed reading a book for entertainment. One of my sisters asked to see the book. I gave the book to my sister and I closed my eyes to take a nap. Suddenly I felt the bed vibrate. That was so strong! I realized it was an earthquake. I stood up from my bed and went outside. We went to the campus of U.E.H. There I saw the wounded people and dead bodies the people brought to the campus. I said thank you to God because he kept me alive."

Prayer Requests

·  Praise the Lord for being our Fortress, Stronghold and Deliverer and for His protection of all our children.

·  That from this tragedy God would provide new opportunities to rebuild Haiti for His glory.

·  That Haitians would unite in peace and solidarity of purpose to rebuild Haiti.

·  That gangs would lay down their arms for tools to join the rebuilding.

·   There would be a spiritual awakening in Haiti and among those who are moved to help.

·   That God would protect and strengthen all the aid workers faced with so much tragedy (specifically Keziah Furth, a former HFC Intern and nurse).

·   That God would quickly unite the adoptive children of HFC and New Life Link (NLL) with their waiting families.

·   That the leadership of HFC would be united as they undergo a discernment process regarding our role in rebuilding Haiti and the future of our non-adoptive children.

·   That the Lord would continue to protect our children and secure the buildings from further damage.

·   That Dr. Bernard and Claudette would be strengthened and renewed that they would not grow weary as they deal with this tragedy on the ground.

·   That God would renew His call on each of us and strengthen us to do His work, wherever He calls.
