Q. Why do you ask if I have any metal plates or pins in my body for a facial treatment?A. In some of our facial services (specifically our new Optimizer Facial) we may use a tried and true esthetic tool called Iontophoresis.
This uses a mild and very safe electrical current. The current is used to ionize or "push" product into the skin (such as firming and hydrating serums). While the results are absolutely fantastic there are normal contraindications such as metal in your body. So, that is why we ask.
If we can't use an electrical current we can use an ultra sonic infusion which uses a micro vibrating technology.
Q. Dark spots...can't I just laser them off?A. Sure. But before you drop a couple of thousand dollars on a series of laser treatments first try a simple, at home regime.
Dark spots are a build up of melanocytes, usually caused by some sort of a trauma to the skin (like a healed blemish or over exposure to the sun).
We would recommend the following Brightening regime first:
- First you need to use a product that has a Tyrosinase Inhibitor...look for ingredients like Kojic Acid to slow down the production of melanocytes...(what is actually pigmenting the skin). I am using Rhonda Allison Brightening Cleanser.
- Next add a Vitamin C product in the morning under your regular moisturizer to lighten and brighten the skin. Vitamin C will also help to boost collagen by addressing fine lines and wrinkles. A staple in any brightening and anti aging skin care regime. I am a huge fan of Super C Serum, it has been one of our top sellers for 4 years!
- A nightly retinoid product to exfoliate and build collagen. Add either an RX Retinoid or an OTC one. We have several to chose from.
- Lastly, a DAILY SPF product. Even on cloudy days and no, your makeup alone won't cut it for sun protection. My favorite SPF is still Environmental Defense from SkinMedica.
If you do decide to go laser in the end the Dr will likely give you a very similar pre laser program, so you won't lose any time.
Q. So what, I missed a night or two of washing my face...that can't be why I am breaking out?
A. Well it is. You see makeup is now formulated to be long wearing. That means that your makeup or sunblock you applied at 7am is pretty much still on your face at 3am.
Add a couple of days of forgetting to wash your face with day old hair product and a dirty pillowcase...Well, that makes for dirty skin that will cause blackheads and breakouts.
Simple fix, wash your face every single night. Don't relay on the wipes you can buy at the drug store, they only leave a residue on your face. A foaming gel or milky cleaner and hydration. Keep it simple when you are tired, but get it off your face!
