Sound Options'  mission is to improve the lives we touch through the compassionate delivery of high quality family care.
Greetings!

The watermelon is fresh, summer has begun and June is upon us. This month we celebrate Father's Day and we'll explore the idea of aging at home during National Home Safety Month. Our home is everything to us. It is a place to return to, to belong in, and be ourselves.  As we work with people in their homes we truly understand the impact that this sanctuary can have on a person's quality of life. Statistics show that people age best when they are able to stay safely in familiar surroundings. Certainly mobility, home safety and finances can become issues for those who wish to age gracefully at home, but it can be done well and Sound Options can help. Let us assist you in developing a plan for you or your loved one to age in place, be safe, and be well.

As June 20th approaches we hope that you will celebrate and tell dad just how much you care! Speaking of his own father, Clarence Budington Kelland once said, "He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it". To all those who have been fathers to us, who have lived with strength and integrity before us, we thank you for your example and we celebrate the contribution of your life. This kind of living will stay with us far past one day in June.

During June, the Home Safety Council (HSC) is working to educate and motivate families to take actions that will increase the safety of their homes. You can help spread the word by joining the Hands on Home Safety Campaign. It's easy!

The Home Safety Council has created ready-made home safety resources that you can share with family members, your community members, employees/coworkers and many more to help encourage people to take a hands-on approach to making their homes safer this June.

Sound Options' Geriatric Care Managers and Caregivers provide practical resources that help clients live safely in their own homes.  Together, our care team is committed to sustaining independence and quality of life for every client.

Prevention begins with a safety check of every room in your home. Use the following room-by-room checklist to alert you of potential hazards and to record any changes you need to make. You can buy products or gadgets necessary for home safety at stores carrying hardware, electronics, medical supplies and children's items.

Keep in mind that it may not be necessary to make all of the suggested changes. This article covers a wide range of safety concerns that may arise, and some modifications may never be needed. It is important, however, to re-evaluate home safety periodically as behavior and abilities change.

Your home is a personal and precious environment. As you go through this checklist, some of the changes you make may impact your surroundings positively, and some may affect you in ways that may be inconvenient or undesirable. It is possible, however, to strike a balance.
eldercouple1Aging in Place

The National Aging in Place Council (NAIPC) is a senior support network. NAIPC was founded on the belief that an overwhelming majority of older Americans want to remain in their homes for as long as possible, but lack awareness of home and community-based services that make independent living possible.

Most Americans do not make a plan to age in place, although you should start thinking about one before you plan to retire. Creating a plan can prevent unexpected events from turning into crises that compromise one's ability to live independently.

Sound Options offers professional care services to help clients plan for the future.  Our skilled professionals will help you navigate the many choices and create a plan that promotes independence, freedom and fiscal responsibility.
