January is glaucoma awareness month. Glaucoma refers to a category of eye disorders often associated with a dangerous build up of internal eye pressure. This can damage the eye's optic nerve, which transmits visual information to the brain. Symptoms include intense eye pain; blurry vision; nausea; seeing halos around lights; and, in some cases, blindness.

don't make weight loss your resolution
Try not to narrow your resolution to focus specifically on weight loss. Most people find more success by relating the weight loss to overall wellness. Look at what you are or are not doing in your daily life that affects your weight and see if you can first modify this aspect of your lifestyle.

 During the winter months, many people experience some form of cabin fever with the daylight hours ending sooner and the temperature dropping outside. Most of us find ourselves eating more and exercising less when fall transitions into winter. But for some, the change in seasons and their reaction to the change is more serious than a few extra pounds.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), also known as winter blues or winter depression, is a mood disorder. People have normal mental health throughout most of the year and experience depressive symptoms in the winter months year after year.
