Bea Remembers....
The Boy Who Packed His Own Pickles (as told to Billy Appel, by Bea)
Quite a few years ago, there was a certain boy visiting Bea's Ho-Made store with his family. He was fascinated by the the work he saw being done by Bea and the staff. Buckets of cucumbers were on the tables, and water baths were boiling on three stove tops and the tang of dill and brine was in the muggy kitchen air. Bea noticed the boy's wide-eyes and invited him to pack his very own jar. With the help of the staff, the young fellow packed his own jar and watched until it came out of the water bath. He returned the next day with his family to pick up the finished product; a jar of tasty, crunchy pickles that he and his family could enjoy together. After 50 years in business, this story of the wide-eyed boy remains a favorite for re-telling by Bea. |
50 Years in 2011
In 1961 Bea's Ho-Made Products got its start when the Landin's oldest daughter, Linda, started selling cherries from a picnic table by the roadside. Today we produce and hand-pack over 100 varieties of jams, jellies, relishes, pickles, sauces, and syrups.
We have been celebrating with in-store discounts and promotions. We have also given away cases of Bea's famous chopped cherry jam. Couldn't stop in? Don't worry, as a subscriber to our newsletter you'll be receiving special promotions and discount coupons. |

News Around Door County
Pierce Manufacturing has released their 2012 calendar, featuring Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Department's 100' Aerial Platform Ladder truck. Ownership of the truck was taken by the fire department earlier this past Spring. The truck was a much needed piece of equipment, replacing the 1970's era Pierce Quint that couldn't offer the required protection for our area.
