Seizing the Day
Marist Class of 2012 is one of the best

Sunlight streamed through the windows and into the gymnasium, highlighting the room filled with parents and friends who'd come to witness the graduation of Marist's Class of 2012.

Although less warm that other years, the crowd still used their programs as fans, struggling to get through the June 2 ceremony so that they could gather outside to take pictures with the 131 graduates.

Blue, gold, red, and even tiger-striped balloons floated above the seats, one bundle already lost, tangled in the half-raised basketball backboard.

The gymnasium serves many uses over the school year - as a site for an arts festival, an arena for sports - but few purposes seem as important as this. Loved ones dress up as if for a ball to witness the final, most significant moment in each student's life thus far. The gym is the last place at Marist that many of them will see as they depart the school for good.

A Quick Note from John Taormina

Dear Alumni and Marist friends,

Thank you for your care, concern and compassion for Marist High School and our students. This past school year we met our annual giving goal of $230,000.  But, as a school family, we still have our work cut out for us. The need for student tuition assistance continues to rise and so do expenses. As partners in our mission, we need you to help us meet our goal of $260,000 for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Together, and as a family, let's continue to stick together and financially support the school in however way possible.

It is because you share your personal success with our youngsters that awesome things happen every day. Look at the graduating class of 2012. They earned over $8 million in scholarships and financial awards (highest in Marist history and over $2 million more than last year) and 100% college acceptance! Without you, many of these successful students would have fallen through the cracks into failing alternative educational settings.

The picture is clear. Your prayers and financial investment allow for continued success stories. Without your partnership, we just can't sustain enrollment or run special programs according to the academic or social skill levels of our students.

To partner with Marist High School and our students, please invest by clicking www.marist.org/annualfund. It's not always easy to provide financial support in one lump sum, especially today. If monthly payments or installment payments make better budgetary sense for you, as it does for me, please email Norma Abreu at nabreu@marist.org.

May God bless you.

Sincerely in St. Marcellin Champagnat,

John A. Taormina, M.A.
