Leaders, Volunteers, and Friends of PTA:
School buses on the roads, crisp PT(S)A membership forms, and unbroken crayons can mean only one thing-the school year is here! I hope each of you, your children, your schools, and your PT(S)As have gotten off to a great start this week.
The leadership of MCCPTA has been busy this summer developing programs and building relationships, and I am thrilled that the time has come for us to put that planning to work. We envision a year in which county and local PTA leaders together will grow PT(S)A at every school, will deepen engagement in every school community, and will advocate for the success of every child in one unmistakable voice.
In this edition of News and Updates from MCCPTA, please find information on our upcoming Fall Training, how to get your PTA membership cards, and the new Maryland PTA training requirement. We also unveil our monthly series of MCCPTA Presents programs-open to all-providing insights and information to strengthen parent participation in our children's education and better understanding of changes and resources in our schools.
Sincerely,

Key Points on New Maryland PTA Training Requirement
The newly approved Maryland PTA Bylaws includes the following requirement:
"Sends at minimum 2 board members, one of which is the treasurer, to be trained by a council, Maryland PTA or National PTA within 180 days of taking office. Training must include financial training regarding the required Maryland and IRS tax forms."
-
If members of your PT(S)A board, including your treasurer, attended the financial training MCCPTA delivered at Spring Training in June 2012, YOU HAVE MET THE REQUIREMENT.
-
If your treasurer and/or members of your board were elected in 2011 to two-year terms, you are exempt from the requirement, but we at MCCPTA will need your names and information; we will create a process to collect that in the days ahead.
-
If your treasurer and board members were elected in Spring/Summer 2012 and you did not attend MCCPTA Spring Training, plan to attend Fall Training on September 8th. We will include the required training among a host of useful, interesting offerings.
