Please Act:  Montgomery County Public Schools Facing $40 Million in Cuts in State Education Funding

Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley has called a special session of the State General Assembly in order to address outstanding budget issues.  The "doomsday" budget, which will go into effect on July 1st -- unless our legislators otherwise agree -- would result in a loss of over $40 million in State funding for Montgomery County Public Schools.  Yesterday, Dr. Starr joined the superintendents of Baltimore City Public Schools and Prince George's County Public Schools in sending a letter to State leaders, urging them to restore State funding for public education.

The session begins on Monday, May 14, but decisions are being made now.

Please contact your District Delegates and Senators by phone, or email TODAY OR TOMORROW to ask for their support for State education funding.

Please also post a request on your school listserves to ask school community members to do the same.

The request of our State officials is straight forward: Please restore State funding for public education during the special session.

Please take a few minutes to act today, and help support funding for our schools.   Thank you for your continued advocacy!
