December Update
Thank you to the Presidents and Delegates who participated in our November Delegates Assembly.   Again, great debate, brilliant insights, and thoughtful decisions.

The Delegates adopted the following:

Next Up: Operating Budget Advocacy

Operating Budget Chair, Jean Schlesinger, will be providing regular updates on the Operating Budget.  These will be emailed as well as posted on our website's home page.  In the meantime, mark your calenders for budget-related events with the starred dates to the left.   And do NOT miss...

Funding for Our Schools Forum

Presented by MCCPTA and the NAACP Parents' Council

Wednesday, January 4, 7:30pm

Carver Auditorium

Come hear first hand from our elected leaders, including Maryland House Ways and Means Committee Chair Sheila Hixson, Senate Delegation Chair Jamie Raskin, House Delegation Chair Brain Feldman, and members of the Montgomery County Council and Montgomery County Board of Education. We will get insight, information, and answers about how changes could impact funding for our schools and our children's education.

PTA Presidents should be on the look out for the Superintendent's Recommended Operating Budget in Brief.  Each school will receive 2 copies on Monday, December 12; one is for the school and one is for the PTA president.  The recommendation will also be available online.

MCCPTA Annual Presidents & Principals Dinner

The date has been set!

Thursday, May 17, 6:30pm

Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center

Our county tradition is for local PTAs to invite (and pay for) their principals to join them at our annual dinner.  We hope all will come out for a celebratory evening.  Stay tuned for more details!

Our Volunteers Are Appreciated

A few quick kudos to:
  • High School Chair, Dave Lechner, for planning a fabulous Model United Nations for our county high school students
  • CIP Chair, Steve Augustino, for his advocacy on the CIP budget and, especially, his efforts regarding the school modernization schedule
  • Health & Safety Chairs, Susan Burkinshaw and Donna Pfeiffer, for planning a great program on Conflict Resolution
  • Gifted Child Chair, Michelle Gluck, for planning a hugely popular program on acceleration within Curriculum 2.0
  • Membership Chair, Janette Gilman, for her tips and strategies to increase membership...we're up 30% over last year's numbers year-to-date
  • Parent Involvement Chair, Elisia George, for coordinating with MCPS on the "Rolling out the Red Carpet" forum that outlined ways to welcome all parents into your school community
  • ESOL Chair, Antonio Hernandez-Cardoso, on his amazing progress in reaching out to various parent communities throughout the county
  • Cultural Arts Chair, Priscilla Peterson, for all the information before, during, and after the Cultural Arts showcases

We have an amazing group of volunteers and I know there are so many more volunteers who should be recognized (we'll get there eventually!).  Thank you all for your efforts and know that you are appreciated!
