Delegates Update I wanted to give you a head's up on agenda items for next Tuesday's Delegates Assembly. We will be discussing the proposed MCCPTA Legislative Platform. Since the last Delegates Update was sent on 11/9/11, other issues have come forward which may be introduced as additions to the platform. Those may include:
Support for a county law on issuing camera tickets (via school bus-mounted cameras) for reckless drivers found driving around or past stopped school buses which are loading or off-loading students. (Note: This language is fairly specific in order to inform you of the potential legislation. We/MCCPTA may want to broaden the language and not be so specific.)
Support for full voting rights for the Montgomery County Student Member of the Board of Education. This would allow the student member to vote on operating and capital budgets, collective bargaining, school closings, and boundary decisions. (Note: Richard Montgomery HS PTSA is supporting this position.)
If you have questions or comments prior to Tuesday's Delegates Assembly, I would encourage you to post to our Delegates Elist. For those still new to the elist, just post by sending an email to mccpta_delegates@yahoogroups.com Note that you must have subscribed to the elist. More info on that can be found on our website on the Elist Committee Page.
Finally, I encourage you to join us before the Delegates Assembly for a conversation with Superintendent Dr. Starr, 6:30-7:30 in the Carver Auditorium. We will cover issues such as transparency and MCCPTA priorities.
It bears repeating....
Important Info on Delegate Cards Per our newly adopted Standing Rules:
In order to receive your delegate cards, each local PTA must first: 1. Submit the names of delegates to the MCCPTA office. 2. Pay some portion of dues ($1/member) to MCCPTA. 3. Each delegate must present a valid local PTA membership card.
Unlike in previous years when delegate cards were "ponied" to schools, delegate cards will be now be distributed directly to delegates starting at the November Delegates Assembly. In order to receive your Delegate Card, you will need to present your local PTA membership card.
Each Delegate will pick up their own card, and may not pick up the additional cards for their PTA. This way we can make sure everyone receives his or her card. Make sure to pick up your card prior to the meeting as you will need your delegate card to vote. If you are unable to make the November meeting, your card will be available at future meetings.
Remember to bring a valid local PTA membership card!
If your PTA has not yet distributed membership cards,
speak to your PTA President and/or Membership Chair as it is critical that they do so.
