Big Cleanup Planned for March
The 30,000 acre Savannah National Wildlife Refuge is adjacent to one of the busiest ports on the East coast. Unfortunately, this means pollution is a problem faced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service who manage this important tidal freshwater wetland habitat. Clean Coast plans to make a dent in the most visible form of pollution which affects the refuge - trash. Huge amounts of it have accumulated along the shoreline of the Savannah River so we need lots of volunteers to help with this one. Sign up online and we will email detailed instructions including driving directions.

Little Tybee Cleanup
A great group of 28 volunteers woke up early to set off in the cold windy weather to clean two miles of beach on Little Tybee Island. Our estimated haul is 660 lb. of cans, bottles, fishing gear, blocks of styrofoam and other miscellaneous refuse. Special thanks go to John Wylly who allowed us to rendezvous at his dock on Tybee Island and guided our way through Jack Cut to a safe place to anchor our boats. Thanks also to boat captains Dennis Cusanelli, Lamar & Nancy McDonald, and Charlie Ross for waking up extra early to get their boats out to Tybee by 8:30 a.m.
The pictures say it all and we've got lots of them in the photo album.

Annual General Meeting
This year's Annual General Meeting will take place Monday, March 19 at 7:00 pm at Tubby's in Thunderbolt. All members are invited to review the past year's accomplishments and talk about plans for the current year.
This is also when we elect a new board of directors. Also for your consideration are revisions to Clean Coast's by-laws. The by-laws haven't been updated since Clean Coast first formed as a 50(c)3 non-profit corporation back in 1991. Over the years we have gradually changed how we do things to the point where we no longer are in compliance with our by-laws. The current board decided that it would be a good idea to revise the by-laws so that they reflect the way we prefer to operate rather than to force ourselves to comply with outdated rules. You will have an opportunity to vote yea or nay at the meeting.
