 |
Dr. Ed Hendricks |
ASBP Member Dr. Ed Hendricks of Sacramento, Calif., recently was appointed to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Endocrinologic & Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee (EMDAC). According to the FDA website, EMDAC "...reviews and evaluates data concerning the safety and effectiveness of marketed and investigational human drug products for use in the treatment of endocrine and metabolic disorders, and makes appropriate recommendations to the Commissioner of Food and Drugs." In recent months, EMDAC separately recommended Lorcaserin and Qnexa for FDA approval, which will be decided on by June 27 for the former and July 17 for the latter. Congratulations to Dr. Hendricks!

ASBP announces call for abstracts
ASBP invites members to submit an abstract for oral and poster presentations at the 62nd Annual Obesity & Associated Conditions Symposium in Orlando, Fla., on Oct. 24-28. ASBP currently is accepting abstracts to be presented as oral presentations during the special breakout sessions or as poster presentations during the Clinical and Scientific Poster Session. For the oral abstract presentations, members have the opportunity to present research or clinical data during the breakout sessions on Friday, Oct. 26. These presentations are limited to 15 minutes each. For poster presentations, members have the opportunity to present research or clinical data to interested attendees during an interactive poster session on Thursday, Oct. 25. The poster session provides a forum for showcasing one's work and obtaining feedback about ongoing research, data collection or clinical approaches from knowledgeable conference attendees. While the poster need not describe completed work, it should report on research or clinical data for which at least preliminary results are available. All abstracts are reviewed by the ASBP Program Committee, in conjunction with ASBP Health Director Stacy Schmidt, Ph.D., to ensure the high quality of the society's conferences. Learn more about the call for abstracts and abstract submission guidelines or download an abstract submission form online. Click here to review submission deadlines. Also, travel award applications are available to physician-in-training and student members interested in presenting.
