GeoMAPP is participating in several conferences during the month of July. We hope to see you at one of these events as we promote geospatial preservation! You'll find more information and links below. We've also released the Geospatial Data File Formats Reference Guide, a new tool describing several raster and vector geospatial data file formats, plus some related standards that GIS professionals and geospatial archivists might encounter.
Also, mark your calendars for July 28, when we are planning our next GeoMAPP Informational Partners session, where we will discuss archival appraisal for geospatial datasets. Look in your email inboxes for a brief survey from the GeoMAPP team to provide us with some feedback in preparation for that meeting. |

GeoMAPP Partner Meeting

| The GeoMAPP team just completed their annual partner meeting, hosted by their newest partner, the Montana State Library (MSL) in Helena, Montana. The team conducted project working group sessions, and had special presentations by Tom Holm from USGS EROS explaining their geospatial appraisal philosophy and process for preserving landsat imagery, MSL's Diane Papineau on Yellowstone National Park, and Montana's Statewide Cadastral Theme Steward, Stu Kirkpatrick on archival considerations for cadastral datasets. |

The GeoMAPP team will be joining government archivists and records administrators to present their latest tools that assist archivists in distinguishing from the multitude of geospatial formats. Join the GeoMAPP team on Saturday, July 16 at 8:30-9:45 am to explore the variety of geospatial data formats, and strategies for preserving geospatial data. The GeoMAPP team will be participating in the first joint National Digital Information Infrastracuture and Preservation Program / National Digital Stewardship Alliance conference. The GeoMAPP team is planning our next Informational Partners meeting for Thursday, July 28 from 3:00-4:30 pm EDT, and we will be discussing appraisal of GIS data for archiving.
Based on feedback from our recent survey, many of you indicated the value in soliciting input and feedback to invite conversations on the topics discussed in our Informational Partners meetings. Therefore, in preparation for our next meeting, we'd appreciate your input through a brief 10 question survey to better understand what areas of the GIS achival appraisal process most interest you, and to offer some topics for you consider and reflect upon prior to our meeting.
