Message from Pastor Pete
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
I sit way too much! I spend countless hours in front of this computer. Cookies that find their way into the church office stand no chance! When I was younger, my body could handle all that. No longer! Even though I played basketball a couple times a week, in the past year I found myself attracted to 'comfort band' pants...ones with elastic that let me delude myself I was the same size as I'd always been. Something had to give!
Because of this, a few months ago I set a goal: to run in the Eyota Days 5K road race in July. For experienced runners, a simple 5K is just a warm up. For those of us who haven't run that far in years...challenges abounded. I've run off and on (mostly off) over the past years. Even when I did run, the runs were short and intense. I had to find a way to slow down and stretch the run to be able to survive a full 5K (which amounts to 3.1 miles). I don't think that I'd run that far since my high school cross country days (and I only ran cross country back then because my basketball coach made me!).
In April I finally strapped on my running shoes and dragged myself out of the house. It took all my energy just to breathe! I found myself walking for a while because my lungs just couldn't take it. I'd stagger home feeling miserable.
After running for a few weeks, my lungs felt better ... but my legs gave out. It felt like I had lead weights dragging along under me. I again had to walk a bit to allow them to rest. I could barely take it!
Suddenly, a few weeks ago, everything seemed to fall into place. For the first time in my life I began to understand the 'second wind' that many runners talk about. Breathing now comes easily. My legs continue to gain strength. When I run, I enter a 'zone' where I can just keep chugging along for quite some time. I know that I'm not breaking any world's records, but I'm getting into shape.
God has given me this body to care for! I'm finally taking that seriously.
Who wants to join me in the Eyota Days 5K on Friday, July 15th (or, if you're from out of town, who will get themselves into shape for a 5K where you live!)? |

Volunteers Needed!
During this much anticipated and exciting time of watching our Church being built, Mission Builders is on site and looking for volunteers to assist with the construction process. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Chad Nelson, by e-mail: Nelson.Chad@mayo.edu or phone: 507-358-5075.
The Mission builders will be on site working Monday - Saturday, so please let me know what fits your schedule.
The more help we receive the faster the process will progress! Thank you in advance for your consideration to HELP! |

Preparing to Move
As we prepare to move into a building, there are some policies that will need to get put in place (i.e. building use policies, wedding policies, etc.). Let a church council member (or Pastor Pete) know if you'd like to serve on a team that helps develop these. We'll borrow heavily from other congregations that have these in place, so we won't be reinventing the wheel! |

Building Images
Keep up with our building construction at http://s1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb331/peaceeyota. Amy Heaney is coordinating the site, so if you have pictures for her to upload, send them to her at ajheaney@live.com. |

Weekly Campfires
Peace is again planning to have a Wednesday night get together. This year, instead of the park, we plan to meet around a camp fire on our land. We will begin at 6:00 pm for a light potluck. Peace will provide hotdogs, buns, ketchup and mustard. Bring a dish to pass, drinks and your lawn chair. Invite your neighbors and friends. Sit back and fellowship with your friends. Get to know the Mission Builders. Perhaps a guitar will show up and we can sing a few songs. There will be a short prayer time. We are looking forward to seeing you there! |
Construction Schedule
It's time to start building walls! Who wants to swing a hammer???
If you plan to help at all this summer, Chad Nelson is coordinating volunteers. Let him (or the church office) know it you'd like to help build our new building! You don't have to have any special skills...all are invited! |

God With Us
A prayer for us when we are overwhelmed, pressured and anxious: "O Lord, I have come to you for protection; don't let me be disgraced. Save me and rescue me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me, and set me free. Be my rock of safety where I can always hide." (Psalm 71: v 1-3) |
