Jesus said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

Matthew 4.19

Bob and June Ewell, missionaries with The Navigators

Greetings!

We hit the ground running in September! I'll update you on what you've been praying for. But we did take time on Saturdays for hiking culminating on Oct 1 in a little-known trail to Tenny Crags near Colorado Springs. Fall foliage was stunning!

Of course, here in Colorado, when there's Fall, can Winter be far behind? This picture of our front yard was taken one week after our hike!

In the meantime, I continue to think about GRIT (Generational, Relational, Intentional, Transformational, "flow-through" discipleship). Please see the  Discipleship Perspective at the end of this message to see the connection between Generational ministry and the Sea of Galilee!

We always link you to the current issue of One-to-One in the left margin, but I'd also like you to check out the article about Church Discipleship Ministry from the September issue.

Thanks for praying!
We are thankful for the following answers:

For the Missional Community Conference
I had a great time with 20 like-hearted people. The major takeaway for me was that we in The Navigators must continue to emphasize basic discipleship: time in the Word and generational ministry. A leader in missional community has recently written that "...without discipleship missional community will fail." You can read Mike Breen's provocative article here.

Men's Life, First Presbyterian, Colorado Springs
We're off to a great start with over 60 men on Tuesday mornings (6a!). Already men are being strengthened by time in the Word and with each other. One brother from the Colorado Springs Rescue Mission said: "God is helping me. I didn't hurt my roommate today even though I wanted to!"  It's a start...
Men gather to study the Word for themselves!
Men from all walks of life study the Bible and process together
how to apply it to their lives.

June's ministry to women
June's message to the women of Academy Christian Church was a key part of launching a completely new approach to women's ministry, one driven by relational disciple-making. Over 25 leaders and potential leaders committed to learn how to come alongside others in their spiritual journeys.

Please pray for the following:

Time with God, Rocky Mountain Calvary

I met with over 100 leaders in this large, dynamic church and challenged them to be more intentional in having and teaching others how to have daily time with God as part of relational disciple-making. Please pray that these leaders meet with God daily and catch the vision of "teaching others also." (2 Timothy 2.2)

Navigators National Staff Conference, Nov 8 - 14.

I will be joining several thousand other Navigators in Louisville, KY. Though our national conferences only happen every four years, each one is significant in rallying Navigator staff around our vision and purpose and reenergizing those of us who minister daily on the front lines. Please pray that we are all revitalized to carry out the Navigator vision to know Christ, make him known, and help others do the same.

Church in the City, Denver

My work with this unique church in inner city Denver continues. I will be speaking with Bible study leaders soon. Please pray these leaders see the vision for multiplying their ministry through future leaders that they train.

Women's Discipleship, Tri-Lakes Chapel

On Wednesday nights, June is leading a select, small group of leaders at Tri-Lakes Chapel through Friends on the Journey, a Bible study specifically designed to help women leave a spiritual legacy. Pray that they become the foundations of many generations! (Isaiah 58.12)

Discipleship Perspective: "Flow-through"

It was at the Sea of Galilee that Jesus called four fishermen to "Follow me (Relational) and I will make you (Transformational and Intentional) fishers of men (Generational)." (Matthew 4.19) The Sea of Galilee teaches us an important lesson. The Dead Sea, 60 miles south of the Sea of Galilee, is the lowest spot on earth, about 1200 feet below sea level. But the Sea of Galilee is also below sea level! The difference is that water flows into and out of the Sea of Galilee. Water flows only into the Dead Sea. Inlet but no outlet. Believers are called to be like the Sea of Galilee, not the Dead Sea. For example,

- We are blessed that we might bless others (Genesis 12.2, 1 Timothy 6.17, 18)

- We are comforted that we might comfort others (2 Corinthians 1.4)

- We are taught that we might teach others (2 Timothy 2.2, Romans 15.14).

 Let's be flow-through disciples, not dead-end (non)disciples!

We appreciate your interest in and prayer for our ministry, and we always count it a privilege to pray for you as well. Please don't hesitate to contact us at bob@ewell.com or june@ewell.com.

God bless and stay strong,
