See! For the Lord has given you the Sabbath.

Exodus 16.29

Bob and June Ewell, missionaries with The Navigators
Greetings!

It's rest time for us! And not a minute too soon. After an incredibly busy summer, we're taking two weeks to rest, pray, and plan in Estes Park, Colorado. Please see the Discipleship Perspective on Rest at the end of this letter.

Thanks for praying!
We are thankful for the following answers:

For our support!

We have a long way to go, but the Denver church made a significant contribution as did one other church and several individuals. Some of you will get a letter shortly with more detail.

For July travel

- 4,000 road miles over nearly three weeks safely!

- Mutually inspiring visits with donors, friends, and six pastors. One pastor was especially challenged by the GRIT message (for a summary, please click here) and the fact that we all have a limited time to invest in others and leave our legacy.

- Motivating interactions with fellow regional leaders with The Navigators and "uneventful" air travel from Atlanta to Colorado Springs and back.
- Wonderful family reunion at Melody's lake house in Arkansas: four adult children, two spouses, five grandchildren: 13 in all!

Please pray as we plan for the following:

Missional Community Conference, September 1, 2

I will be in Harrisburg, PA, to explore how best to help people become part of missional communities. I will be sharing lessons we're learning about missional, inter-generational, neighborhood small groups in the context of a local church. Please pray that we will learn and generate new strategies.

Men's Life, First Presbyterian, Colorado Springs, Sept - Apr

We will be continuing to teach the men to feed themselves through personal Bible study using the Gospel of Matthew. Please click here to see how we do it. I'll train leaders on August 30 and September 6. The men start on September 13. Please pray that they will become men who feed themselves and others.

Women's Discipleship, Academy Christian Church, September 9

June is speaking at a discipleship kickoff for women's ministry, sharing a vision for investing in the lives of others through relational, intentional disciple-making. Please pray for the leadership and for a few women to catch this vision.

Women's Discipleship, Tri-Lakes Chapel, beginning September 14

June will be using Friends on the Journey, Book 3 of the new discipleship series for women from NavPress, to lead a select group of leaders through the nuts and bolts of discipling relationships. Pray that they become the foundation of many generations!

Men's Ministry, Mississippi Ave. Baptist Church, Aurora, CO, Sept 17

This will be my third meeting with these men. Please pray that some of the men will catch the vision to exercise true GRIT in making disciples!

Discipleship Perspective

I am reading For God's Sake, Rest! by James L. Anderson. I was struck by the fact that human beings, made in the image of God, are the only creatures who can stop working. Yes, we have to work, and like most Americans, I love to work and tend to work all the time! But God has given us the Sabbath that we might rest. When I rest, I'm honoring God's image in me since he rested, and I'm trusting him to provide and even to advance the Kingdom without my working nonstop. We pray that you, also, would be intentional about rest this week.

We appreciate your interest in and prayer for our ministry, and we always count it a privilege to pray for you as well. Please don't hesitate to contact us at bob@ewell.com or june@ewell.com.

God bless and stay strong,

strong,
 BobSig
