Beginning from Jerusalem
"Repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem."
(Luke 24.47, ESV)

Greetings!

Hope you are enjoying a wonderful start to 2011!

We wanted to share some exciting things that God has been doing through generational ministry, featuring fruit in Kenya. It shows that any of us can reach the world, beginning from where we are. We've never been to Kenya, but a man involved in our ministry has been to Kenya. Please read on...

Teaching Time with God in Kenya!

Lorne Sanney, second president of The Navigators, commenting on Luke 24.47 (please see side bar), captured an obvious truth: "Why 'beginning from Jerusalem'? Because that's where they were! You certainly cannot reach the world starting from where you are not!"

Jimmy lived out this truth. I had invested time training him in Alabama in the early 2000s. In March 2010, he went on a mission trip to Kenya and taught a bishop the discipleship concepts I had taught him, including daily time with God. In October 2010, here are the observable results as reported by another member of the short-term mission team:

...the most telling moment of long term impact came Wednesday night when one of the leaders in the church shared how the Bishop had taught from the pulpit how to study God's Word. During the trip in the Spring our group had taught the Bishop a process for Bible Study. After we left, he taught the pattern for several weeks.  Now one of the members of the congregations was fluently reciting how he prays for revelation before he reads, how he reads with a pen in anticipation of this revelation, how he meditates on what is revealed and develops an action plan for change.

This is a solid example of how you and I can reach the world starting from where we are if we invest in people who invest in other people. (Please see 2 Timothy 2.2 at the top of this message!)

Learning to dig into the Word

On January 8, over 40 members of the Church of God in Thornton, CO, (near Denver) participated in all three sessions of a conference we called Enjoying God in 2011. Here are some of them learning to dig into the Word for themselves.

Please pray for the pastor, Mike Vlad (down front in the white shirt), as he continues to reinforce the time with God teaching and other concepts from the conference.

Upcoming Ministry Opportunities
Please pray with us...

I have some major ministry opportunities between now and early March. Specifically,

- February 5 and 19, March 5: Colorado Dangerous Man Men's Conferences, I'll be presenting the How to Make Time with God a Priority workshop at all three of them.

- February 6, 13, and several dates to follow: preaching Sunday morning at Fox Meadow Church, Monument; facilitating The Ways of the Alongsider among leaders there beginni
ng February 13.

- February 26: The Ways of the Alongsider Seminar at Calvary Chapel, South Denver. (Four one-hour presentations)

In addition, please pray for Denver's Church in the City-Beth Abraham as I meet twice/month with the senior and teaching pastors and other key leaders, laying the foundation of the Intentional Disciplemaking Church using The Ways of the Alongsider.

Church in the City-Beth Abraham

Church in the City-Beth Abraham meets in a historic synagogue. They hold services both Saturday and Sunday!

Also, there are possibly three more opportunities for working with churches in the south Denver area. Please pray for open hearts and a desire to be effective in making disciples.

We appreciate your interest in and prayer for our ministry, and we always count it a privilege to pray for you as well. Please don't hesitate to contact us at bob@ewell.com or june@ewell.com.

Stay strong,
