Donald Trump is going to tell a hand-wringing America if he's going to run for president sometime in June.  Some are wringing their hands because they hope he runs.  Most because they hope he goes away.

Me?

Well, I'm not going to address policy because he hasn't made a stand on anything yet-except the misled notion that President Obama is not American born.  Of course when that was proven erroneous he took credit for the proof.

Yet in polls he's running neck and neck with the other leading republican candidates.  Although it's quite early, and these polls will probably look very different a year from now, I find it strangely disturbing that so many people would be in his camp at this point. And I don't say that because he dropped the f-bomb several times in a speech last week or because of policy, which, as I said, he doesn't have.

His leadership or lack thereof is my problem:

  • Trump is a dictator at heart and in practice.  He wouldn't tolerate the political process in Washington. Presently when Trump says "jump" people jump.  As president he'll say "jump" and congress will look back at him and say "you jump!"

  • No one that works for him expresses disagreement with his decisions...ever.  I've watched The Apprentice quite a bit-my wife makes me.  There has never been one time-not one-where either of his two support people has ever voiced a disagreement with his choice of whom to fire.  And it has never mattered who those support people are in a given week.

Heather and I joke that we know what his henchmen will say after each firing:  "You had no other choice." or "That was the obvious choice." or "That's all you could do."  UGH!  In all of these years his peeps have never felt he was wrong?  Ever??

You can say that it's just a TV show, but remember he has total control over how he is perceived on that show.  That actually makes it worse.  This is how he wants us to see him!

It's very important to him to be seen as right always.  Obviously he doesn't deal with dissension well.  For that he's a fool.  A leader has to love contrary thought because it challenges his notions and frictions out the best ideas.  Rather than quash dissension he needs to facilitate it.

  • On Trump's show, he rewards lying, back-stabbing, blaming others, unethical behavior and divisiveness.  He punishes honor, truth-telling, fair play, taking responsibility, maturity and class.  As a leader-and read this carefully please-you are what you reward.

  • His impossible arrogance borders on delusional.  I remember when he was about to build Trump Tower in Chicago.  He said it would revolutionize Chicago's skyline.  Nah.  Chicago's skyline was already voted by travelers as the most beautiful in the world.  It still is...his is just another stick.

  • He's childish and picks petty fights.  This stuff with Rosie O'Donnell a few years ago was another revelation of his character.  He called her names (fat, ugly, stupid).  He's like a five year old at the playground.  Rosie was childish too, but at least she hasn't said she might want to be president.

I can't explain Trump's apparent popularity at this point except to say that it never ceases to amaze me how easily seduced by power we are.  What else explains it?

Nope, based on his poor leadership qualities Trump should and never will be president.

Now... Ivanka maybe.

Till next week...

I'd love to hear from you. Reply to this email and let me know your thoughts.
