AGTS named 2013 Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs magazine

Springfield, Mo.--October 5, 2012--The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) has been named by G.I. Jobs magazine as a 2013 Military Friendly School for its exceptional efforts to embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus. This listing places AGTS among the top 15 percent of VA-approved schools across the country.

The 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year. This is the seminary's second consecutive year on the Military Friendly Schools list.

The Veterans Affairs Office at AGTS guides veterans through

  • the process of accessing benefits and getting certifications,
  • determining which program to pursue and costs involved and
  • the search for jobs and housing in Springfield.

"Each semester I help each veteran register for classes to make sure he or she gets the most out of the benefits entitled to them," said Stormy Davis, AGTS VA rep. "I also connect them to other military veterans and chaplaincy candidates for additional social support as they transition from military to civilian life."

Guy Caley, a veteran and Ph.D. student at AGTS, said, "The VA representative at AGTS has always gone above and beyond to ensure that I get the benefits earned for my military service, sometimes even benefits I didn't know I was entitled to."

"AGTS has a long history of commitment to military personnel and veterans by providing the theological education necessary for military chaplaincy and other ministry opportunities," said AGTS president Byron D. Klaus. "We're pleased that this enduring commitment of AGTS to military service members, veterans and their families is being recognized on such a visible platform."

More than 190 AGTS graduates are serving as chaplains in the U.S. Armed Forces (active duty and VA). AGTS goes beyond fulfilling the basic 72-hour military requirement by providing specialized courses geared toward chaplaincy candidates. Chaplaincy-specific scholarships are available. In addition, more than 270 alumni are serving as chaplains in industries such as health care and corrections. Thirty current AGTS students are studying to be chaplains.

As one of the world's leading Pentecostal seminaries, AGTS is committed to transformational learning experiences that preserve the value of face-to-face learning while utilizing the best in digital technology to reach beyond the walls of the classroom.
