Loren Triplett Honored at Legacy Lectures

AGTS hosted two Legacy Lectures honoring Rev. Loren Triplett, a missionary statesman and former executive director of AG World Missions. Dr. Doug Petersen, distinguished professor at Vanguard University, presented the life of Loren Triplett including A Missionary Manifesto on March 13-14.
The writer of a 1997 article said, "Loren Triplett leaves a legacy of passion. Whether riding a Speed the Light mule through the hills of Nicaragua or seated in a jet airliner, his life focus has always been to take the saving message of Christ to a lost world. His characteristic passion for the lost is not just sentiment, it is an intelligent conviction coming from a Spirit-illumined understanding of God's Word and a keen sense of urgency."
President Byron Klaus honored Loren Triplett as an AGTS Distinguished Pillar of the Faith during a ceremony in the Great Hall immediately following the lectures. Loren's wife, Millie, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren attended.

Books and Publications
Dr. Raymond Gannon ('82/'84), a missionary for over 40 years, AG representative for Jewish ministries, and visiting professor of missions and Jewish studies at AGTS, wrote The Shifting Romance with Israel.
This study focuses AG Pentecostalism and reflects the larger Evangelical and Pentecostal drifting away from a strong bond to Zionism and the Jewish state. Gannon traces the sources for early 20th century Christian thinking as they relate to the future of national Israel as discovered in 17th century Puritanism, 18th century Post-Millennialism, and finally 19th century dispensationalism. The 20th century is historically partitioned to examine issues that produced years of rather dramatic changes. It traces the "shifting romance" with Israel to draw conclusions that might surprise you.
Dr. Steve Eutsler ('88/'98/'07) wrote Free at Last! Prison Epistles: An Independent-Study Textbook. Springfield, Mo.: Global University, 2012.
Sling Shot Circuit Rider by Randy Pogue ('95) is the tale of an ordinary man who accepts the extraordinary call of God to become a Methodist itinerant preacher during the early 1800s. While the main characters are fictional, this story depicts the true life history of Missouri's settlement days through the personal story of one young circuit rider named William Travers.

Dr. Carolyn D. Baker ('84) returned to Bulgaria in March to teach two seminars in Theology at Sofia Pentecostal Bible College at the Sofia and Plovidv sites. The writing of a theological workbook written by and for Bulgarians is her goal.
Chaplain Marlin Williams ('06) sent this update: "Pictured are six Marines with their Chaplain (yours truly) taking a moment at an outpost overlooking an active battlefield somewhere in Afghanistan to pray for themselves, their families, and their comrades out in the fight. They are taking a moment to participate in one of the very freedoms that they fight to protect. These Marines stand this post 24 hours a day 7 days a week in both freezing and brutally hot temperatures without the luxury of hot food, running (or warm) water, electricity, or any way to communicate with their loved ones. The only way to get there is by traversing a two foot wide path cut through a mine field along a mountain range -- which these Marines do daily in order to resupply themselves with mission essential items. They do this while being constantly reminded of the dangers of their work. There are two crosses that stand just outside of view of this photo that bear the names of those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice in this area."
Remember to pray for our chaplains and their families.
There are many AGTS graduates currently serving as military chaplains on active duty, reserves, National Guard, and Veterans Affairs. They are stationed in places of conflict around the world. |
