AGTS to host first annual Summer Institute for Islamic Studies

 


Springfield, Mo.--November 30, 2011--AGTS's Center for Islamic Studies will host the first annual Summer Institute for Islamic Studies in July, 2012 featuring four courses on Islam and ministries to Muslim peoples. 

July 2-7, 2012

Engaging Islam
This course provides an overview of Islam, including its beginnings and expansion, the beliefs and practices of formal and folk Islam, Islamic sects, the identity of women, Islam in the United States, global Islam today and bridges for communicating with Muslims.

Folk Islam and Power Encounter
A study of the beliefs, practices, animistic roots and localized expressions of popular Islam. A biblical perspective on the worldview and felt needs of folk Muslims leads to the development of strategies for effective communication of the Gospel message.

July 9-13, 2012

Women in Islam
This course examines the identity and role of women in historic and contemporary Islam as taught by the Quran and Hadith and throughout society, covering various cultural contexts

Church Planting in Muslim Contexts
A survey of the major ecclesiological options and their historical development.  Principles for establishing evangelistic and discipleship ministries in Muslim societies will be explored. Special attention will be given to the unique process of establishing the church within an Islamic culture.

 

AGTS hosts the largest resident faculty in Islamic Studies of any seminary in the United States. The practitioner/scholar faculty of eight reflects a total of 250 years of ministry among Muslim peoples globally, including in the United States.
