Focus Better on Your Business With Weight Training
 
If you're a Busy Executive, Entrepreneur, or Business owner then you know that you can experience a lot of stress during the course of the work day. To the entire staff at Colosseum: I have had nothing more to say about your establishment other than, "What a Great Gym", that is until now.

 I had bariatric surgery almost two years ago.  I was 412lbs when I decided to have the surgery and was 405 on the day of the surgery.  For approximately 18 mos., the surgery did all the work.  I work out and have done the treadmill with victory.  I went from 1.5 at 0 incline to 3.2 at 3 incline.  Three weeks ago I met a friend who joined the gym to help me prepare for this class.   In three weeks, I am now able to do the treadmill at 3.5 speed and 10 incline. 'WOW".  I am proud of myself at such small tasks and such great results.   

 I can't express how excited I am to see where this fit camp will take me in six weeks.   Everyone has been exceptional with motivation, generosity, genuine concern and not to mention all of you are good looking..LOL....Trust me, it helps when your teachers and motivators are examples of what's to come.  With all of that being said, although you may see the eyes blinking and the head nodding, it is truly not because I am not enjoying myself because I truly am.  It's because, I said goodbye to one chapter and am excited to say goodbye to this one. 

This one to me is the most important, because although I am an avid dancer, "Michael Jackson wanna be", I am taking my body to another plateau where it has never been.  As kids we jump, play, run because we are hyper.  We don't realize the good it is doing to our bodies.  Although I am no longer a kid, my heart and soul is child like and with this class and Colosseum gym, I should have no problem fitting in with them on a physical level .  LOL   Thanks with sincerity for all your help and I will justly make you proud.  Trust me!  

 Vinny this idea was absolutely brilliant.  You will really be successful with this. We need to publicize this more.  Johnnie, your personality is that of a perfect gentleman.  I feel so good when you are around me.  Mark, your such a flirt but it works.  Thanks for being so insightful.  Juan, is always smiling and professional and really makes me feel special.  Addie, you are a hard worker and always helpful with informing me with what's going on.  Herman, you are gentle spirit , soft spoken and humble person with a great smile. 

  Your awesome, I better watch out for you.  Vinnie, again, you are brilliant and an inspiration.  Your inspiring spirit is motivating me to be able to challenge you one day.  Maybe you should be competing somewhere.  I am proud of all of you and even more proud to be a part of your establishment.   Now promote Nicki whom all of you should fear because she is 'FABULOUS.

Back to School: Colosseum Gym Helping Local Students Deal with the Pressures of Freshman Year

With the start of freshman year just around the corner, college students have a lot to look forward to.  New living arrangements, friends, classes, parties, sports, clubs and freedom can be positive parts of the next chapter of most young peoples' lives.  But for some, these things can also introduce a new set of problems for some young people - namely, introduction to the world of eating disorders.

College can be stressful - anyone who has been through the experience can tell you it's true.  Students are away from home, many for the first time, and it can be hard to know right off the bat how to take care of yourself when Mom and Dad aren't there to guide you.  Many times the right decisions and the most popular decisions do not go hand-in-hand.

Nobody wants to gain the dreaded "Freshman Fifteen", as it is called.  However, with the prevalence of alcohol at parties and late-night study sessions where the only food available is late night pizza and fried chicken, keeping your high school weight can be a daunting task.  It is all too common for students, girls especially, to resort to extreme and dangerous behaviors leading to bulimia and anorexia.  If you do not have personal experience with this in your college experience, there is a very good chance you will have a friend or know someone who did or will.  Any kind of eating disorder is no joke, and can potentially cause major long-term physical damage.  In extreme cases, those suffering from eating disorders can wind up starving themselves to death.

According to Science Daily (www.sciencedaily.com), common signs of eating disorders can include:

-           A preoccupation with calculating calories, fat grams and carbohydrate grams

-           A need to weigh oneself more than once a day

-           Allowing the numbers on the scale to determine one's mood

-           Exercising, skipping meals or purging (vomiting) after overeating

-           Exercising to burn calories rather than for health or fun (exercise bulimia)

-           An inability to stop eating once eating begins

-           Eating in secret

-           Feeling guilty, ashamed or disgusted after overeating

-           Basing self-worth on looks or weight

-           Worrying constantly about weight and body shape

-           Abusing diet pills or laxatives

 

Science Daily also notes the two most common forms of eating disorders as anorexia nervosa, when a person stops eating or eats very little to control their weight and bulimia nervosa, when a person purges or uses laxatives to eliminate the food they have eaten to prevent themselves from gaining weight.  "Both types of eating disorders can eventually lead to serious health problems and even death". 

A person with an eating disorder is not "going through a phase" or attention-hungry.  They are afflicted with a real disorder and should seek help.  If you have an eating disorder or know someone who does, you can contact The Center for the Treatment of Eating Disorders in Livingston, New Jersey at www.edhelp.com.

  Getting Through Weight Training Injuries

As we train, over-train and push through plateaus, we're susceptible to incur some injuries. Failure to warm up, sudden cooling off, overload, improper movement and poor nutrition all contribute to injury. Pain demands our attention and causes us to totally focus on the injured area, that's why we should learn to know our body. 

When working on an injured area we should use light weights and high repetitions.  This will help us target the injury and determine our body's limitations. If the injury is minor, I work through it and around it but to avoid  further abuse in the area I begin to compromise.  By compromising I discover new movements that I can use in future workouts.

We should also remember that we have to feed the muscle with a balanced nutrition.  Let's remember to feed them with the right protein, multivitamins, BCAA and plenty of water.

Ultimate Fitness Boot Camp will push you beyond your normal exercise routine.  You can generally expect to meet in the gym or at times, outdoors. You will spend an hour doing cardiovascular exercise, running, interval training, and obstacle courses, along with strength training elements using dumbbells, exercise bands, kick boxing, kettle Bells, Trx suspension along with body weight exercises.
