Students compete nationally
Welton Wardell, Jr. and Josh Haralson.
New JCJC 2012 alumni, Josh Haralson of Jackson, MS, and Welton Wardell Jr. of New Orleans, LA, represented Jones in the national Skills USA competition this summer. While they didn't take the top spot in the national competition, they represented JCJC very well. Haralson competed in culinary arts and Wardell tested his skills in cosmetology. The two earned the right to compete in Kansas City, MO, after winning first place in their respective competitions on the state level. In all, 150 JCJC students competed, but these two were the only ones who won the right to compete nationally. Wardell was also the first JCJC student to earn a scholarship to pay for expenses to get to the competition and had the opportunity to meet the donor, the famous host of Discovery Channel's popular series "Dirty Jobs", Mike Rowe.
