Alumni Accomplishment-Ryan Earnest

Congratulations!  to former 2000-2002 JCJC Bobcat coach ryan earnestfootball player, and 2000 Laurel High School graduate, Ryan Earnest who was recently named the new Collins High School Head Football coach.

Earnest hit the grid-iron as a USM football player in 2002 while earning his B.A. in English in 2004.  He continued in grad school receiving his Masters in Interscholastic Athletic Administration in 2007 and in 2008 Earnest obtained the Education Specialists degree in Educational Leadership.

Leading the Collins Tiger football team, marks Earnest's first head football coaching position.  However, he proved himself at his high school alma mater as assistant coach in 2004.  After two years, he joined the Sumrall Bobcats as assistant football coach for one year before becoming the Wayne County War Eagle assistant coach.  Earnest served under Marcus Boyles for the last five years.

Earnest fondly recalls, "one of the most inspirational parts of (his) time at Jones was how coaches like Ed Smith, Eddie Pierce and Steve Boyd pushed us toward excellence on the field and off the field," said Earnest.  "It's always great tryan and Lakeisha earnesto bump into them after all these years and to know that these men helped mold me into the person I am today."

Ryan and his wife Lakeisha have an eight month old daughter, Laila.

Alumni Accomplishment-Josh Heird

josh heird and caroline ramagosCongratulations!  to Josh Heird. The Ft. Collins, Colorado native has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Championships at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.  He previously served the college as Director of Championships which means he coordinated post-season events, including all Big East and NCAA events.  Last year the university hosted the NCAA Division I Field Hockey National Championship, the 2nd/3rd Rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, an NCAA Softball Regional, a Cross Country Regional, and the Big East Cross Country Championships.  Heird is currently coordinating another big event this fall as the Cardinals host the NCAA Volleyball National Championship and the NCAA Cross Country National Championship.

Heird played soccer and participated in track at Jones in 1998-2000 and transferred to Mississippi College, graduating in 2002 with a B.A. in history.  He earned his M.B.A. from the University of Louisville in 2009.

Returning to the JCJC campus after more than 12 years, Heird said was a wonderful experience.

"It was great coming back to the Jones campus for the first time since 2000. I was able to catch up and see some of the professors and administrators that I have kept in touch with through the years.  Although the campus has grown by leaps and bounds since the last time I was here, it still brought back a lot of great memories."

Heird's goal is to continue in athletic administration and eventually become an athletic director.
