Classes begin in June.  Click on the link for details: Culinary Arts and Horticulture Non-credit courses

Graduation

The spring commencement exercises were notable for several reasons this year.  A record number of students were eligible to graduate and almost everyone 'walked' or participated in the graduation ceremony, which prompted some changes.  Two ceremonies were held for the first time!  To read more about the class of 2012 click on the link to Kelly Atwood's story:   JCJC graduates record numbers

 First Female Electrical Technology Grad

Ronni WelbornIt's not easy coming back to college after leaving the classroom for several years.  However one Jones County native decided to not only sign up for classes but to also enter a traditionally male-dominated industry.

Ronni Welborn has further distinguished herself as the first female to graduate from Jones' relatively new, Electrical Technology program.

Construction Update
ws Academic bldgSummertime marks the beginning of some new construction projects, remodeling and maintenance on the Jones campus.  Most notable are three projects on campus: removal of the Academic building, adding to Anderson Hall and remodeling the game room.
Removal of the Academic building, which was built in the 1930's began the week following graduation.  The space will be used as 'green space' for now.
The Anderson Hall expansion will add 108 beds in a new wing.  Construction is just beginning with a projected Fall 2013 completion date.  The game room will feel like the 'grill' of years past.  VP of Student Affairs, Ed Smith said students will enjoy a fast-food restaurant with a place to 'hang out' in a small Student Union setting by this fall.

Other construction projects will be featured in upcoming newsletters.

Softball Wrap Up

The #3 ranked Lady Bobcats had a stellar season on the softball field.

Two sophomores, pitcher Ginger

Lonergan and centerfielder Relanda McFarland were recently selected for some special honors.  The two helped the Lady Bobcats to a record-setting, 44-11 this season, a top six finish in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament and a first-ever MACJC state championship.

To read more about the student-athlete honors click on Shawn Wansley's story: All-American softball players.

Baseball Wrap Up

The Bobcat baseball team also had a spectacular year on the diamond.

Head coach Christian Ostrander and his men ended the year at 31-19.  The 20th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats finished winning the South Division title for the third straight season.
For the fourth year in a row, the Bobcats advanced to the MACJC State Tournament.  Dreams of returning to the National Championships were dashed with a loss to Mississippi Gulf Coast in the State Tournament which effectively ended Jones' chance to play in the regionals.

Centennial Seal Just because you aren't on the JCJC campus every day doesn't mean you can't play an important role in the Centennial Celebration. Anyone can join the Centennial Celebration by becoming a "Bobcat 100" donor.

The "Bobcat 100" is an Alumni Centennial Campaign honoring our 100-year heritage while simultaneously providing resources that will allow us to enter our next century with confidence.

You are invited to join the growing group of individuals who have become part of the "Bobcat 100." All we ask for is a donation of $100 to commemorate Jones' rich history and give you an opportunity to continue inspiring greatness as we move into the next century.

Our goal is to present 100 Centennial Scholarships to deserving students for the 2012-13 school year.

Make checks payable to the JCJC Foundation "Bobcat 100" and mail to

900 South Court Street, Ellisville, MS 39437.

For more information call the JCJC Foundation Office at 601.477.4145.

in 1977 when the women's dorm burned to the ground on New Years day?  The building was first built in 1910, housing 84 women, the clinic and apparently outdated electrical wiring.
