Alumni Spotlight-Erin Lowery
|
Dr. Jesse Smith shared alumna, Erin Lowery's story in a recent video blog. He explained, "Here's a story about a successful young lady who left our college just last spring. I met Erin Lowrey when she, along with several other Radionian students, interviewed me about my trip to China. I was very impressed with Erin's opinion article, and I'm not surprised to see that she received first place in the state for her part of that project. She'd already won awards for her work on the Radionian. In the short year since she's left us, she's worked for the Laurel Leader Call, been a guest on WUSM and will serve as host next year, and she will intern for WDAM this summer. Before her graduation next year, she's also planning to do some public relations work and freelance with local newspapers. I'm proud of her successes, and with her drive and motivation, I'm certain we'll see more of her in the future." Jess

PTK Awards |
The two-year college international honor society, Phi Theta Kappa recently showered JCJC's Rho Sigma chapter with an abundance of honors at its Regional and International Conventions over the last two months. The nine-member leadership team responsible for these awards was recently featured in Dr. Smith's video blog, which you can view by clicking this link: PTK Awards Interviews. Local media also covered their accomplishments too.
While Jones has garnered many awards from this prestigious organization over the last decade, this is the first time that Jones has taken home awards from the International Convention since the honor society changed its criteria in 2010. The number of awards chapters' are eligible for was also cut in half in 2010.
Also for the first time, Jones representatives PTK president, Gwen Matuszewski of Raleigh, and PTK adviser, Gwen Magee were asked to give a presentation at the International Convention about the award winning College Project, "The Tassel's Worth the Hassle" with 1,280 chapters present at the International Convention in Nashville, TN. This was one of the more special years in the Jones PTK chapter's history.
