Hello! Alumni and Friends, |
Here's what's happening at Jones!
The Texting/Drinking and Driving Simulator gave students the opportunity to see how these activities can be a deadly distraction while driving. The play, "The Meeting" debuted on the JCJC Fine Arts Auditorium stage, celebrating Black History Month. Performed by the Renaissance Theater Group, the play is about a fictitious meeting between the civil rights leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.

Mardi Gras at JCJC with a Centennial Twist. Cafeteria Bakery Chef, Kathy Conner created the massive King Cake commemorating the JCJC Centennial and Mardi Gras and served it for lunch on Fat Tuesday! |

100 Days
| JCJC VP of Advancement, Caroline Ramagos recently helped the preschool kids celebrate their 100th day of school. Instead of celebrating 100 years at Jones County Junior College, the JCJC daycare and Early Childhood Education Technology students celebrated the 100th day of school. Judy Prine, one of the JCJC instructors explained three to five-year olds can't grasp the abstract concept of 100 years but they can count 100 days.
Part of the celebration included counting 10 goody bags with 10 items in them, wearing party glasses shaped like the number "100" and 100th day crowns, and having lots of fun! The JCJC Foundation and Alumni Office have planned several events in honor of the centennial celebration.

Reflections from Steve Swogetinsky | JCJC 1 973 graduate, Steve Swogetinsky wrote some of his memories from his days at Jones for the current yearbook, at the request of JCJC yearbook adviser, Rebecca Patrick. We thought alumni would enjoy the reminiscing of the former news and sports editor and how Jones has impacted his life. Click on the link to read: Reflections from a JCJC Sports Editor

Valentines Banquet | Love was definitely in the air at JCJC on February 14 as 28 couples shared the evening at the Alumni Association sponsored Valentine's Dinner. The third-floor boardroom of Jones Hall was transformed into a banquet room for the night. With the view of the moonlight shimmering on the lake and the decorated tables, one attendee remarked that she almost forgot she was on a college campus and felt as if she had been transported to a five-star restaurant high atop a big city skyscraper. Dinner was prepared and served by JCJC culinary arts students. The five-course menu included sweet potato veloute, hearts of palm and roasted beet salad, bruschetta of crispy fried oyster, filet mignon oscar and a very decadent duo of chocolate mousse and red velvet trifle.

Winston Duckworth
|
Our condolences to the family of long-time Board of Trustees member, Winston E. Duckworth. The Covington County farmer and businessman died February 19, at the age of 86. He had served on the JCJC board since 1990.
JCJC President Dr. Jesse Smith said Duckworth loved the college, students, faculty and staff. He added, "His conservative leadership combined with a genuine concern for the development of our students, and our community made him a great man and leader. We will cherish his influence on us all."
