Alumna Performance
Nikki Melvin Johnson   Performing the role, Musetta in the Italian opera, "La Boheme" at USM's Performing Arts Center was a dream of Nikki Melvin-Johnson's.  The JCJC Musical Theater Director and Jones 1996-98 alumna also had the opportunity to perform with some of her students who are current USM students. David Hastings (left) and Carrie Hinners (middle) of New York, pose with John Lintner (right) after running and touring Memphis

JCJC 1999 graduates John Lintner and his wife, Crissy Smith not only work together, they run together!  The two recently started Rockin' Running tours in March, 2010 and it has gained national attention.

The December issue of Runner's World  features Lintner and his personal story.  The Raleigh native

is part of a series by Ted Spiker, featuring people who are motivated by various things.  It mentions Lintner's business and how he started running.

If you want to find out more about this alumnus and how he combined his love of running with touring historical sites in Memphis, read about them in The Commercial Appeal's feature story here, and the Runner's World  feature here , or check out the thier web page at rockinrunningtours.com.

Congratulations!

Campus Construction

If you haven't been on campus in a long time, you
might not be familiar with a few new buildings.
Jones Hall and Anderson Hall are the newest buildings to be added to campus.  There are other renovations on campus, too.  For the full report, read the Construction Story by JCJC student writer, Michelle Hahn.Jones Hall artist rendering

Homecoming Favorite JCJC Memory

Tommye Sumrall and Gerald Wyatt as JCJC Homecoming Queen and King
Tommye Sumrall & Gerald Wyatt 1958 JCJC Homecoming Royalty

Our first "Favorite Memory" comes from Mary Louise (Sumrall) Jenkins from the class of 1955.

At the Homecoming festivities, November 1, 1958, her sister, Tommye (Sumrall) Wyatt and her future husband, Gerald Wyatt were crowned JCJC Homecoming Queen and King.

She reports, to her knowledge the couple are the only JCJC Homecoming royalty to eventually be married.

This is a special memory to Mary Louise because it was also the night of her first date with her future husband!

Please send us your favorite JCJC or JCAHS memory or event and we will share them in our upcoming editions.  Include pictures, contact information, and date of attendance, with your special memories.  Please be brief so we can include everyone's favorite Jones moment! You can mail the information to Amie Herrington at the Alumni-Foundation Office or email jcjcalumniinfo@jcjc.edu

The college will be closed  December 11 through January 3, 2011 for the holidays.  Have yourself a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us here at JCJC!

    Remember When...

in 1957 when the Gideons selected JCJC as the first Junior College to receive donated

Bibles?  Various clubs distrubuted them to students.  A white Bible was placed in   each girl's dorm room and black Bibles were placed in each boy's room.   Every teacher received a large Bible and New Testaments were given to every employee.  The clinic's New Testamants were placed beside each bed.

Sincerely,
