Hello! Alumni and Friends, |
Happy New Year!
One of my goals as Alumni Association President is to encourage more alumni to participate in JCJC activities and to join the association.
You don't have to be an alumnus of JCJC to be a member! I want to personally welcome anyone who loves Jones, no matter where or if they went to college here.
It's easy to sign up to be a lifetime member and stay in the loop, or come as you can. The bottom line, support your JCJC Bobcats! Sincerely, Kathy Harrison JCJC Alumni Association President | |
Bobcat Club Tailgating |
The Bobcat Club will be tailgating in the faculty dining room of the cafeteria on Monday, January 31st at 5 p.m. JCJC's basketball games are scheduled for 6 p.m. for the men, and 8 p.m. for the women's game. They face East Central Community College.
Join us for food, fellowship and fun as we cheer the Bobcats on to victory! |
Wanted! |
If you were a member of the Maroon Typhoon, the football team, or cheerleading squad we
| Attention! | need you! In an effort to prepare for Centennial celebrations we would like to involve as many alumni as possible. Please send us your contact information, which team/organization you were a member of, and the years you played.
Volunteers are also needed to help locate and compile the information collected. If you have the time to help, please email jcjcalumniinfo@jcjc.edu or call the office at 601-477-4145.

Campus Construction |
Construction of the new liberal arts center, Jones Hall is nearing completion. Anderson Hall, the new women's dormitory is rising up from the ground at a fast pace. These pictures were taken in December and the building's exterior is coming together nicely! |
Alumni Announcements |
Please take the time to invite friends and alumni to 'join the mailing li st', to become an active JCJC friend and/or alumnus.
We would also love to hear about your special occassions! Send your announcements (births, weddings, obits, and special accomplishments) to our office at jcjcalumniinfo@jcjc.edu. If you have story ideas or suggestions, we'll take those too! |

Accomplishment-Dr. David Lowery |
JCJC English instructor and '91 JCJC graduate, David Lowery completed his Doctorate of Education degree from Mississippi State University August 7, 2010, and participated in commencement exercises in Starkville on December 10. Lowery earned his Master of Education in English education from USM in 1996. He completed an Educational Specialist degree in English education from MSU in 2000.
Under the direction of Dr. Susie Burroughs, of Ellisville, he wrote and successfully defended a dissertation titled, "A Comparison of the Effects of Instruction Using Traditional Methods to Instruction Using Reading Apprenticeship."
Lowery taught in the the public school system for eight years before beginning his career teaching English courses at JCJC where he has taught for ten years. He is married to Jennifer H. Lowery, and the couple has two sons.
Congratulations on reaching this prestigious goal! |
Grand Opening |
If you ever played baseball or softball at JCJC you are especially invited to the Grand Opening of the new Community Bank Park on Wednesday, February 9, 2011.

We would love to have as many former players as possible to participate in opening day festivities and watch the beginning of a new era of sports at Jones.
Please send your contact information via email to jcjcalumniinfo@jcjc.edu or call the Alumni/Foundation Office at 601-477-4145 to keep you informed about the ceremonies and to prepare for the event.
The men play Baton Rouge at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and the ladies square off against Holmes at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Join us and help us kick off the season in a grand way! |
Spring Events |
Springtime at JCJC is a busy time! We want to extend a special invitation to everyone to attend a few special events the Alumni Association holds every year.
The annual Garden Symposium and Golf Tournament are fun events and open to all of our friends and alumni. The Garden Symposium will be at the Whitehead Advanced Technology Center in late April.
The Golf Tournament will be held at the Laurel Country Club and has been scheduled for March 25, 2011. Sign up now to be a sponsor or to play for a worthy cause.
Both events benefit students by providing scholarships. Those scholarships will be awarded in April 2011. Call the Alumni/Foundation Office for more information at 601-477-4145 or email jcjcalumniinfo@jcjc.edu |
Bobcat Press |
| The Radionian Online! |
For those of you who get your news via the computer, you can now get your JCJC news online too! A new edition of the student newspaper called, The Bobcat Press, is a weekly online edition managed by student editors, just like the newspaper you remember.
Printed versions of The Radionian newspaper are still available, but the number of 'hard' copies has been reduced. You can find newspapers throughout campus in the new "newspaper racks", just like commercial newspapers, however, The Radionian is free!
To get the online version of the student newspaper, either search 'Bobcat Press' on the Internet or click here to get the latest news from JCJC student reporters, about life on campus. |
Homecoming Favorite JCJC Memory |
| Tommye Sumrall & Gerald Wyatt 1958 JCJC Homecoming Royalty |
We'd like to clarify some information in our first "Favorite Memory" in the December edition, from Mary Louise (Sumrall) Jenkins from the class of 1955.
At the Homecoming festivities, November 1, 1958, her sister, Tommye (Sumrall) Wyatt and her husband, Gerald Wyatt were crowned JCJC Homecoming Queen and King.
She reports, to her knowledge the couple are the only JCJC Homecoming royalty to be married at the time they were crowned as Homecoming Queen and King. The couple was married in the summer of 1958, prior to being chosen as Queen and King.
This is a special memory to Mary Louise because it was also the night of her first date with her future husband!
Please send us your favorite JCJC or JCAHS memory or event and we will share them in our upcoming editions. Include pictures, contact information, and date of attendance, with your special memories. Please be brief so we can include everyone's favorite Jones moment! You can mail the information to Amie Herrington at the Alumni-Foundation Office or email jcjcalumniinfo@jcjc.edu |
