Greetings!

The Foundation for Reformed Theology exists "to renew the theology, ethos, social vision and hope of the Reformed and Presbyterian community" (emphasis added).

Given that the very premise of our existence is that "the theology, ethos, social vision and hope of the Reformed and Presbyterian community" need to be renewed, two realizations come to mind.

First, the faith and life of the Reformed Churches is no longer new or like new, meaning that in some ways the church has fallen away from what it was, what it could be, and what it should be. Something has gone wrong.

Second, the purpose of renewal is not and cannot be to make the church into something it never has been before but is instead to regain and to restore what it has been, what it could be, and what it should be again.

Thus the question arises: How shall we serve? How shall the Foundation carry out its work? How can we best promote a Reformed understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ and of the human response to the gospel of Jesus Christ, both individual and corporate? Can "the theology, ethos, social vision and hope" of the Presbyterian Church be renewed? How can the Reformed theological tradition best be embodied?

How Shall We Serve?

Let us emphasize and uphold the glory, the majesty, and the sovereignty of the Lord God Almighty, God and Father of Jesus Christ. This, of course, should help to provide a check on unrestrained estimates of human freedom.

Let us emphasize and proclaim the truth and reality of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This should help us to seek to live our lives in obedience of him.

Let us emphasize and acknowledge the truth and authority of the Scriptures as the written word of God. This should help us to know and to understand that the Scriptures are not susceptible to all possible interpretations.

Let us emphasize and promote the duty and the joy of proclaiming and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with all the people of the world.

Let us seek to live together in communities of faith, worship, obedience, and service. Here the gospel is to be proclaimed, the Scriptures and the historic faith of the church are to be taught, and the gospel of Jesus Christ is to be applied to the lives of the people of Jesus Christ.
