It was nearly two-and-one-half years ago that I first read George F. Wills's Sunday column, "A Faith's Dwindling Following" (October 19, 2008). His two closing sentences have continued to fascinate me:

 

"As the church's doctrines have become more elastic, the church has contracted. It celebrates an 'inclusiveness' that includes fewer and fewer members."

 

Will was writing about the Episcopal Church. But I have to ask whether what he has written might apply to other denominations. And I have to ask whether there might be theological lessons to be learned for the Foundation as we promote the study of the historic faith of the church for the ongoing reformation of the church.
