We Care

The We Care program is a network led by volunteers who reach out to address short-term needs - food deliveries, rides to doctor's appointments, a listening ear in the event of a loss. The Cedar Lane congregation is organized geographically by "neighborhoods"; each neighborhood has at least one chairperson to coordinate support. Look at your nametag or the map in the church office to find your neighborhood.

We send our loving thoughts to Lois Delaha (Neighborhood 10) who will be at Randolph Hills Nursing Center in Wheaton for the next few weeks after a bout with complications from pneumonia.

Our hearts go out to Mary Butler (N17) after the recent death of her husband, Art Johnson.

Should you know of a member of our community in personal need, you are encouraged to reach out to them. If you learn that this person wishes to receive a response from the church, please contact Heather Janules at

hjanules@cedarlane.org. All ministers offer pastoral care to our members so you are also encouraged to contact any member of the ministerial team.

Kensington Labor Day Parade

It was so much fun, we're doing it again!

The Member Services and Public Awareness Committees are sponsoring a Cedar Lane entry in the Kensington Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 5, 2011 and we'd love to have Cedar Laners of all ages, some walking, some on bikes or scooters, and maybe a couple in a special car or cars.  We'll have a large banner, special T-shirts, and lots of flyers to pass out.

If you can join us, please let us know!  Contact Mary E. Farrar at maryefarrar@verizon.net or Andy Streich at astreich@cedarlane.org or 301-493-8300 X301, so we can make sure we have enough tee shirts of the right sizes and so we can send you more details about the parade!

Free books from Susan's library available by the library's breezeway door.  Help thyself!

Have you ever wanted to learn a bit more about the Bible?  You might want to consider joining the 9 am 5th grade Bible teaching team.  You don't need to know anything in advance but you will learn much by year's end.  AND you get the double pleasure of spending time with our amazing 5th graders!  See/email/call  our MRE, Susan Archer!

Music Notes From the Director of Music

Dr. Henry Sgrecci

Aug. 21 -

Young CLUUC musicians Eric Rosenthal and Owen Brinker will contribute to this service chronicling the "Hiroshima Children's Drawings." As a member of Bell Canto of Cedar Lane, Eric Rosenthal rings our lowest bells. He returns to the Sanctuary with his cello to perform two classics: the first movement of Marcello's "Sonata in F Major, Op. 1, No. 1" and "Largo" from Vivaldi's "Sonata in E minor, Op. 14 No. 5."

In the past year Owen Brinker has had an ongoing presence in the Sanctuary, adding his voice to the Youth Choir, and making significant contributions to the Youth Handbell Choir. Owen will be performing Lennon and McCartney's hit song "Blackbird" on his guitar. We are proud of both of these young musicians and their unique additions to the service.
