We Care
The We Care program is a network led by volunteers who reach out to address short-term needs - food deliveries, rides to doctor's appointments, a listening ear in the event of a loss. The Cedar Lane congregation is organized geographically by "neighborhoods"; each neighborhood has at least one chairperson to coordinate support. Look at your nametag or the map in the church office to find your neighborhood.
Condolences to the Watkins and Enderby family - Jon, Nancy, Lucy, Henry and Eleanor (Neighborhood 13) - on the recent loss of Jon's grandmother in Illinois.
We are saddened by the death of former Cedar Laner Dorothy Womack (N 24) on August 4. There will be a memorial service at Cedar Lane on Saturday, August 20 at 2 pm. Our sympathies to husband, Wayne and sons, James and Peter.
Best wishes are with Shirley and Jack Bieri (N 27) whose home suffered fire damage as a result of a faulty gas grill. Jack received minor injuries and was released after a brief stay in the hospital. Their message to friends is that they are "fine and grateful!"
It was great to have visiting former member and Youth Coordinator Glenn Farley! He will shortly begin an internship with Central Unitarian Church in Paramus, NJ as he travels his road to ministry.
Should you know of a member of our community in personal need, you are encouraged to reach out to them. If you learn that this person wishes to receive a response from the church, please contact Heather Janules at
hjanules@cedarlane.org. All ministers offer pastoral care to our members so you are also encouraged to contact any member of the ministerial team.

Kensington Labor Day Parade
It was so much fun, we're doing it again!
The Member Services and Public Awareness Committees are sponsoring a Cedar Lane entry in the Kensington Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 5, 2011 and we'd love to have Cedar Laners of all ages, some walking, some on bikes or scooters, and maybe a couple in a special car or cars. We'll have a large banner, special T-shirts, and lots of flyers to pass out.
If you can join us, please let us know! Contact Mary E. Farrar at maryefarrar@verizon.net or Andy Streich at astreich@cedarlane.org or 301-493-8300 X301, so we can make sure we have enough tee shirts of the right sizes and so we can send you more details about the parade!
Free books from Susan's library available by the library's breezeway door. Help thyself!
Have you ever wanted to learn a bit more about the Bible? You might want to consider joining the 9 am 5th grade Bible teaching team. You don't need to know anything in advance but you will learn much by year's end. AND you get the double pleasure of spending time with our amazing 5th graders! See/email/call our MRE, Susan Archer!

Music Notes From the Director of Music Dr. Henry Sgrecci
Aug. 14 - The young musicians of the Capital Focus Band return to CLUUC to lead this special jazz service. Traditionally the band has led the worship service during the July 4 weekend. This year the band requested a different date due to its travels to Spain and Liberia. Perhaps we will hear tunes that the band picked up from it's international travels.
