We Care
The We Care program is a network led by volunteers who reach out to address short-term needs - food deliveries, rides to doctor's appointments, a listening ear in the event of a loss. The Cedar Lane congregation is organized geographically by "neighborhoods"; each neighborhood has at least one chairperson to coordinate support. Look at your nametag or the map in the church office to find your neighborhood.
It is with sadness that we announce the death of long-time member, Mary Clare England. Mary Clare died this past Monday after a long illness. A Service in Celebration of Her Life will be held this Saturday, August 6 at 2:00 pm in the Cedar Lane chapel. All are welcome.
We celebrate that our own Carol Ireland (Neighborhood 11) was featured in the July, 2001 issue of Washingtonian Magazine, "In Retirement, Former Opera Singer Finds Passion in Synchronized Swimming." You may read the full article here: http://www.washingtonian.com/blogarticles/20129.html
Best wishes are with Al Reese (N19) who is recovering at home after a few days in Holy Cross Hospital.
We rejoice that a number of Cedar Laners will be honored by the UUs for Social Justice at their annual awards banquet, to be held on October 23. The UUSJ Collaborative Social Justice Program Award will be given to our Action in Montgomery team and the UUSJ GLBTQ Award will be given to Marge Dimond (N1) and Stephen Colgan (N7), co-chairs of our LGBT Task Force. Hooray!
Hopes for healing are with Art Johnson, husband of Mary Butler (N17), who is recovering at home after time in a rehab facility.
And We Care Chairperson, Helen Pechacek and the We Care ministerial liaison Heather Janules are delighted to announce a number of new We Care Neighborhood Chairs! Many thanks to all who have agreed to serve the congregation in this way:
Neighborhood #7 Kathleen Reedy and Marion Torchia
Neighborhood #19 Betsy Wilhelm
Neighborhood #10 Maureen McNulty
Neighborhood #4 David Hawver
Should you know of a member of our community in personal need, you are encouraged to reach out to them. If you learn that this person wishes to receive a response from the church, please contact Heather Janules at
hjanules@cedarlane.org. All ministers offer pastoral care to our members so you are also encouraged to contact any member of the ministerial team.
