We Care

The We Care program is a network led by volunteers who reach out to address short-term needs - food deliveries, rides to doctor's appointments, a listening ear in the event of a loss. The Cedar Lane congregation is organized geographically by "neighborhoods"; each neighborhood has at least one chairperson to coordinate support. Look at your nametag or the map in the church office to find your neighborhood.

It is with sadness that we announce the death of former member Margot Schumm, who passed on July 19 in Scotts Valley, CA. Before moving to CA to be closer to family, Margot was a long-time member who will be remembered for her professional work as a scientist and her personal advocacy for social justice. A Service in Celebration of her life will be held in early September; details will be shared once they are available. Condolences may be sent to Margot's son, Bruce Schumm, at 212 Almena Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95062.

Should you know of a member of our community in personal need, you are encouraged to reach out to them. If you learn that this person wishes to receive a response from the church, please contact Heather Janules at hjanules@cedarlane.org All ministers offer pastoral care to our members so you are also encouraged to contact any member of the ministerial team.

Merger of the UUA and the UU-UN Office

(Here are some excerpts from a statement released by the UUA's Stewardship & Development Office July 8, 2011.)

We are delighted to report that at this year's General Assembly in Charlotte, NC, the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and the Unitarian Universalist (UU)-United Nations Office (with the strong support of the Canadian Unitarian Council), announced agreement on the terms of a merger of our international programs.

Apart from a closer relationship, a renewed commitment to speak with one, powerful voice in international affairs, the cost savings and the streamlining of the advocacy services we provide to UUs throughout the world, this move brings the benefit of our values to a world that sorely needs to hear from us!

The good news is that we will continue, without interruption, the heroic work that staff, interns, and volunteers perform everyday at our UN office. We will continue to maintain our offices directly across the street from the United Nations Headquarters on New York's UN Plaza. The even better news is that we will become far more effective and efficient in making our voices heard. And the best news of all is that we have accomplished this with the unanimous support of the UNO board and membership, the UUA board and membership, and the CUC board all affirming this important strengthening of our global witness and the power of our collective resolve.

Our New Copier

We received our new copier this week and have received some training. Not all of the staff has been trained yet, so we're learning along with you.

To get started: we have a sheet listing the steps to make a copy above the copier.
All of the log-in codes have changed, so please check the new sheet that is where the old codes were listed.
To log out: hit the "Clear All" button twice and click "Confirm & Log Out."

If you can't figure out what the machine is doing, please try to read what it says on the screen before punching buttons. It will try to tell you what it's waiting for. It does take a bit of time to warm up.
