Dear PPP member,

It's back to school time already!  The student social norms marketing campaign at Taconic and Pittsfield High School is rolling out this month.  Students will see posters and flyers around school highlighting the positive norms and attitudes about drinking that came out of a survey SADD students administered last year.

There are a couple of conferences scheduled in September that we encourage folks to attend:  The DA's Underage Drinking Conference and the BYDP Youth Worker Summit. See below for details.

Please join us at the Melville Block Party to honor four SAY It Proud Awards recipients on September 17th on the steps of the Boys and Girls Club.

For more information about how to get involved, please visit our website:  www.totallyfreeberkshires.org.

Enjoy the start of the school year!

2011-2012 Social Norms Marketing Campaigns
Full Page Planner AdThe PPP worked with the Students Against Destructive Decisions Chapters at Taconic and Pittsfield High Schools (PHS) to survey students about their attitudes regarding alcohol and design a new marketing campaign that will highlight the positive norms at both schools.  The first set of messages were printed in the PHS planners for the coming year.  Posters and flyers will be placed in both schools this month.

The Berkshire Youth Development Project is sponsoring the Youth Worker Summit on September 23rd.  At this event, you can expect to share and discuss this data, work together to identify the latest trends and needs of Berkshire County youth, and engage in dynamic networking with new and old colleagues.  We hope you can join us as we work to understand the strengths, needs, and opportunities currently facing our youth!  For more info and to register for the BYDP Summit, click here.

The Berkshire County DA's office is hosting "Continuing the Conversation:  A Community Approach to Preventing Underage Drinking" at the Crowne Plaza on September 28th. Please contact the DA's office for more information on registering:  (413) 443-5951.
S.A.Y. It Proud Awards at the Melville Block Party

sayitproudFour young people will receive S.A.Y. It Proud Awards at the Melville Block Party, on September 17th at 1:30 pm on the steps at the Boys and Girls Club. Please come and support the youth being recognized in our community. These kids have been nominated  because they are participating in positive activities, making healthy choices, and working hard! The winners will receive valuable prizes, thanks to our sponsors, Greylock Federal Credit Union, Pittsfield Cooperative Bank, and the Pittsfield Family YMCA. Click here to download the nomination form. We accept nominations on a rolling basis.
Would you card this young woman?

APS Mystery Shopper

We had a 92% pass rate in our latest Alcohol Purchase Survey! The survey was conducted by PPP Mystery Shoppers and volunteers in July. 61 establishments were visited, and of those, all but five establishments asked young looking 21 - 23 year olds for identification, a 92% card rate. This is the best rate we have ever recorded since we began using this strategy in 2009. Perhaps all those TIPS trainings are paying off! Thank you for your support!BUW logo
