Dear PPP member,

During the month of May, the PPP is partnering with the Red Cross Youth Leadership Program to promote a safe Prom and Graduation season.  We will be doing a number of events together.  The PPP is inspired by these young people, who have taken on the issue of youth substance use and seek to promote a positive image of young people in Pittsfield.
Safe Prom Presentation, May 11, 5 pm, Berkshire Museum Theater
safe promThis event is free and open to the public.  All who attend can enter to win one of many prom-related door prizes, including gift certificates to Deidre's Special Day, Steven Valenti's Clothing for Men, Zucco's, Brulee's, the Clip Shop, Lucky Nails, and several florists.  Dr. Scherling from BMC will present "How to Talk With Teens about Safety and Wellness" and the Red Cross Youth Leadership team will perform an original skit about staying clean and sober.  Students attending prom, and their parents, are encouraged to attend.
Sticker Shock  with Red Cross and SADD Teams
Sticker Shock

The PPP will again team up with the Red Cross Youth Leadership Program to implement Sticker Shock on May 18th and Shoulder Taps on May 25.  Many thanks to all the participating liquor stores who will welcome the young people from the Red Cross and also from the SADD chapters as they place stickers on multipacks of beer and winecoolers.  These stickers serve as reminder that it is illegal to provide alcohol to people under 21.  Shoulder Taps is a survey the students do, asking customers if they would be willing to purchase alcohol for a young person.  In the past, Pittsfield adults overwhelmingly said NO, they would not be willing to buy them beer.

Parents of students in Pittsfield schools:  Please take our survey!
The PPP is launching a marketing camaign aimed at parents.  The first step is to gather information from parents of students in Pittsfield schools about what their attitudes and practices around youth substance use. You can click on this link to take the survey:  Parent Survey Link
All who take the survey will be entered into a drawing for one of ten $50 gift certificates to local restaurants.

Look for the PPP on PCTV
The PPP's Safe Prom Presentation will be taped and aired on PCTV.  The Coordinator of the PPP will also appear on PCTV's Community Matters with Berkshire United Way President and CEO, Kristine Hazzard this month.

Thank you for your support!BUW logo
