July Say It Proud
August News from the PPP
July was a busy month for the PPP.  We had another fun Open Mic night for young people at Dottie's Coffee Lounge.  We announced five SAY It Proud winners (see photos above and below!) at the Westside Gather-In.  We conducted an Alcohol Purchase Survey on July 23rd, which revealed a 78% card rate.  Active Parenting Lunch and Learn sessions began at BMC and will continue in August.  Also coming up in August, we will be planning to re-shape our marketing campaign and bring it to students for input and development.  Please join us in our efforts.  Contact the PPP for info on how you can get involved!  442-6948.

Cynthia and Jernee

Say It Proud winners Michelle Atiemo, Ludwig Jean-Louis, Krista Smith, Talya Taliaferro and Alan Vreeland (not in photo) were presented with awards at the Westside Neighborhood celebration, the Gather-In, on Saturday, July 24th.  Committee chair Cynthia Quinones, and former Coordinator of the Pittsfield Youth Commission Jernee Edgerton, presented the teens with certificates as well as prizes curtesy of Greylock Federal Credit Union, Pittsfield Cooperative Bank, and the Pittsfield Family YMCA.  Many thanks to Marlena Willis of the WNRC for hosting us and supporting our winners!   Click here for coverage in the Berkshire Eagle.

Alcohol Purchase Survey Reveals Drop in Card Rate
we id Teams of young adult Mystery Shoppers visited 53 establishments on July 23rd.  All the shoppers were legally old enough to purchase alcohol, but looked young enough that clerks should have asked them for ID.  78% of the clerks and bartenders on duty carded our shoppers.  This rate is almost 10 percent lower than when we last surveyed Pittsfield bars and package stores.  It was a busy night, but that doesn't mean the clerks should drop their guard!  This activity requires lots of volunteers and our shoppers receive a stipend.  To get involved please contact us at 442 - 6948!

Open Mic Poetry and Music Jam at Dottie's!
Josh Dottie's Coffee Lounge at 444 North Street has been offering up it's space to young people in Pittsfield once a month to show us their talent!  On the fourth Thursday of the month, about 10 young people have been performing songs, telling jokes, playing music and generally wowing the audience!  We are taking a vacation in August, but will be back on September 23rd from 6 - 7:30 pm to host another fabulous evening.  Please come and support our young talent and enjoy an iced tea!

The successes of the PPP could not happen without the help of our many volunteers.  Please contact us to find out how you can become involved!
Sincerely,
