June/2010
So much has been happening to create a safe and happy prom this season!  The schools planned fantastic after-prom parties, parents received the message not to host parties where alcohol is served to youth, students put stickers saying it is illegal to provide alcohol to people under 21 on beer and wine cooler packages, a DUI simulator made the rounds at the high schools, and 76 employees attended TIPS training.  Let's carry those messages through the summer months and keep our kids safe.  Planning is in the works to provide parenting workshops in the work place, and to recognize deserving students with the SAY It Proud Awards.  Read on and please join us!TIPS logo

PARENTING WORKSHOPS IN THE WORK PLACE
bmc The Parenting Work Group is helping plan a work place initiative

Berkshire Medical Center has agreed to partner with the PPP and offer parenting workshops to BMC staff during their lunch time in the cafeteria.  The pilot will help us figure out how to bring this initiative to other employers in Pittsfield.  The model allows us to overcome the difficulties of recruiting parents to attend workshops in the evening.  By going to where the parents are already congregating, we hope to reach more parents.  The workshops aim to support parents through difficult and common family conflict.  Please contact the PPP if you are an employer interested in offering a workshop to your employees!
SAY It Proud Awards:  July 24 at the Westside Neighborhood Gathering in Pitt Park
  We need nominations!
Before you take off from school on that much needed vacation, PLEASE send us a quick blurb on a student who is deserving of a SAY It Proud Award.  Plans are in the works to give out awards at the Westside Neighborhood Gathering on July 24th in Pitt Park.  We would prefer nominees who live in the Westside Neighborhood!  You can fill out the nomination form and email it back to kcole@berkshireunitedway.org.  The Pittsfield Cooperative Bank has provided $25 savings accounts to our winners, and Greylock Federal Credit Union will also provide them with a $25 VISA gift card.  SAY It Proud Nomination Form
