Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (FISH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to advocate retaining and improving the historic Issaquah Salmon Hatchery and to promote watershed stewardship through education.
FISH is seeking an executive director to run the daily operations of the organization. This year-round, part-time position involves of a variety of duties, including bookkeeping, fundraising, membership activities, Board of Director administration, public and community relations, supervising existing educational programs and staff, and inter-agency communications.
Requirements: Relevant education or experience, Washington State Patrol background clearance, public speaking experience or demonstrated aptitude, excellent interpersonal skills, strong computer skills, good organizational skills. Availability: Weekdays and some evenings and weekends, flexible hours. DUTIES Communications/Public Relations: Create, develop and coordinate organization's media, government, marketing, communications and public relations programs. Write and coordinate press releases, newsletters, annual reports and program brochures. Manage the organization's website (content, images, e-commerce) and all social media content including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and e-mail and online marketing. Act as a spokesperson and respond to media requests and deliver speeches to community service organizations, local businesses, city, county and state lawmakers and other groups when appropriate. Design and coordinate all advertising for the organization. Responsible for FISH activities at Salmon Days and other community events. Fundraising: Direct and perform fundraising efforts including grant writing and fund development. Cultivate sponsorships with corporate partners, service organizations and government leaders to generate ongoing financial support of the organization. Coordinate all fundraising and special events. Maintain database of members, send out print version of newsletter to members who do not receive e-mail version; notify members when membership expires and cultivate new members. Education Programs: Supervise the education and volunteer coordinator and other FISH staff and volunteers; facilitate exploration of new programs with staff and board. Oversee Watershed Science Center administrative responsibility. Organizational Tasks: Identify agenda items with board leadership, prepare monthly agendas, minutes & financial documents. Also prepare annual meeting and inform board of upcoming meetings.
Agency Communication: Maintain relationships with the City of Issaquah, The State Department of Fish & Wildlife (DFW), King County and others who support FISH politically, financially or educationally. Project Management: Work with DFW staff to maintain and update exhibits. Communicate with original donors to seek funds for repairs. Bookkeeping/Administration: Administer the organization's finances, including twice-monthly payroll, and create financial reports including monthly profit-and-loss reports, budget-to-actual and year-to-year comparisons. File and deposit all federal payroll taxes. File and pay quarterly payroll taxes. Make routine deposits, payments and send invoices as appropriate. Help create annual budget. Term: Begins early April 2011or soon thereafter Work is for 20 hours average per week. Competitive salary based on experience. Travel reimbursed up to $500 (at federal mileage reimbursement rate), $150 stipend for monthly healthcare reimbursement. Three weeks paid vacation. No pension plan.
